BREAKING: Obamacare Enrollment Tops 6 Million

BREAKING: Obamacare Enrollment Tops 6 Million

By Tara Culp-Ressler

On Thursday, President Obama announced on a call with volunteers that the number of Americans who have enrolled in health insurance plans under Obamacare has hit six million.

With several days left to go before open enrollment ends on March 31, the administration has met its target. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that Obamacare enrollment would hit six million by the end of its enrollment period. Although the Obama administration initially projected a seven million enrollment figure, that number was revised down after technological issues plagued the insurance marketplaces’ websites this past fall.

Just ten days ago, the Obama administration announced that enrollments had hit five million — meaning that the pace of enrollment has significantly picked up recently, and a million Americans enrolled in less than two weeks. The White House has always anticipated a last-minute surge in enrollment, since previous efforts to enroll Americans in government-run health care programs have demonstrated that people typically wait until the last minute to sign up.

Although open enrollment technically ends in four days, there will be a few more weeks for some Americans to sign up. On Wednesday, the administration announced that the people who have experienced technological difficulties will be allowed to complete their enrollment in April.

so there you have it. But eventually even the Americans that the Republicons have lied to and suckered so profoundly will wake up, and take steps to get health care for themselves and their families at an affordable price.

This isnt designed to sign all of the uninsured at once, thats an unrealistic expectation. It is meant to do so over decades. More people can sign up every year.

issues. It still might get to 7 Mil, what with the 4 more days and the extension for those stymied by the tech problems.

under Obamacare for affordable amounts (given their modest incomes) won't even check into it. Scoff at me when I bring it up. So I guess they're going to pay the penalty and just be uninsured when they could be insured. Not smart. Both are in their late 40's.

Being uninsured will cost the taxpayers like myself a whole lot more. Your premiums are pennies in taxes while your full blown cancer treatments and bankruptcy will cost taxpayers much more.

Btw, banksters do fund it, thats why Obama raised taxes on the rich.

Who do you think pays for you when you need some medical care? You will need it. We the citizens do. When you get into the ACA you pay your share along with the rest of us to take care of all of us.

In my family, even the most conservative haters of President Obama are signing up and liking what they're getting.

Once they get over the "Obama" part of Obamacare they realize what a godsend it is for them and their family.

We are truly blessed to have this man in the oval office.

swallow. Many here in Massachusettes still do...to point out that this was mostly a Republican, insurance-company-friendly plan as opposed to better coverage like single payer. But, it is the one Mass adopted years ago and it's been very popular.

And as far as the ACA being the best legislation since FDR, there are millions of people with disabilities (and millions more only one accident away from becoming part of that 'open' group) for whom the ADA might seem right up there as well. And of course there were a few good Acts during the Johnson era...

Oh, and WELCOME to DU, by the way!

just the corporate media headline - Christie cleared bullshit

As I mentioned on another thread, could you imagine if all states had participated? The enrollment would be over 20 million.

Note: This entry is purely speculative at this point (I'm ignoring Gandalf's advice here and straying off the path).

OK, earlier today I said:

IF it's true that around 79,000 people per day have been enrolling nationally all of this week, that means that yes, we could indeed have already surpassed the 6 million mark...THIS week.

My current projection has exchange QHPs breaking the 6M mark sometime late today (Thursday) or early tomorrow (Friday), but it's conceivable that we did already pass it late last night or early this morning.

What about that? And how do we know if the check was good? What about the following month? Have they paid that yet? How do we know they didn't rob a liquor store to make the payments? How do we know if they are legal citizens? I think you should have to prove you're a citizen before you can get insurance. Obamacare fraud is rampant. We need Obamacare ID.
