From DUer Nancy Meyer Wednesday on her email.
This week our daughter Rachael is with her junior class on a Close-up school visit to Washington DC. This morning we had this text exchange:
R: Going to talk to our representatives and Deb Fischer. Anything to ask?"
Me: Ask why they want you to be on SCHIP health ins paid for by NE taxpayers instead of private health ins paid by your parents? You benefit from Obamacare.
(Rachael was born with a pre-existing condition that made her uninsurable until 2011 when Obamacare let us move her from SCHIP to our policy.)
Alan and I doubted she would speak up. We were wrong. A few minutes later:
R: Asked about Obamacare. Fischer said she wants to repeal it because thousands of people have told her they have worse health insurance because of it passing and 3 people have told her they have better. And only about a million people have signed up for it. ONLY. I also asked her about the Keystone pipeline, and she wouldn't answer. She just hohummed about how she was waiting on Obama to make a decision and he still hasn't. She wouldn't say her position and she seemed kind of clueless.
The Close-up program is so named because it gives HS students a chance to see what our federal government is all about first hand. I guess Rachael and her fellow students got a good look at one of Nebraska's sausage-makers this morning.
I'm convinced we need better representation.

Most have no idea about TPP, but still support it until you tell them how bad it is.

(10,000 posts)Only one Dem is in each race, and they are not speaking as of yet, because there is no primary, per se.
Regrettably, there is a GOP primary, and I have no idea how one can tell the candidates apart. All claim to be "True Conservatives" (whatever the Hell that means), "Pro 2nd Amendment", "Pro-life", and all vow to fight/repeal Obamacare.
So Fischer's response to the ACA and the KXL are no surprise. I'd bet the "thousands" is actually about a dozen, and I'm betting that those who benefited from the ACA in the Cornhusker State aren't her constituency.

(6,699 posts)The repuKKKes look for a pretty face and an empty head. Yup, get a female on our side of the aisle, forget that they have the common sense of a donkey or the worldly knowledge of a third grader. I am so disgusted with having someone represent me that is dumber than a box of rocks. Sweet Jesus, how can this happen to an educated nation? Sad, really sad.
