Between the ice storm, power outage, record breaking snowfall and cold, this has been such a trying, harsh Winter. Seeing my first Spring blossoms has really been like a shot of much needed medicine. I wish I had a better camera because there were bees buzzing all around the blossoms.

(26,260 posts)Unfortunately, it will be back in the 40's, by the end of the week. But, just getting out and clearing a few flower beds felt wonderful.

(45,319 posts)We've got the dafs and lots of others blooming as well. It was by our standards a very harsh winter and I am glad to see it finish.

(3,709 posts)Warmed my heart and gave me hope the snow was gone.... been a horrid winter for all of us and not over yet for some.

(26,260 posts)I normally have blooms by Easter, but I'll be surprised if I don't still have daffs in June. My forsythia doesn't even have buds, yet, and that is normally way in advance of everything else. But, I have hope because the lilacs have buds.

(3,709 posts)going to be a strange spring.
Oh.. I miss my lilacs. Where I used to live I had a lilac tree, a very old but still prolific plant. It was loaded with blossoms and the fragrance was amazing.

(26,260 posts)It is planted outside of my bedroom window, next to the lilacs. Add my huge lavender plant into the mix, and I have a very fragrant back yard.

(23,720 posts)Not the entire bush, but if you cut a few stems, take them in the house and put them in water they will bloom yellow in January. So if you look real close, they should have buds, because they normally have them in January. I know we had a really hard winter, but they're really hearty and should have them unless it didn't make it through.

(26,260 posts)We are just now above freezing, for more than a few hours at a time. I kind of expect to see progress, this week. And, I will do some cuttings. My 97 year old Aunt has already made the request. It will bring a little Spring to her room at the assisted living center.

(90,662 posts)It won't last, but it's so beautiful while it does. The sourgrass (oxalis) popped up in my front yard (three months late due to not having any rain) and flaunted their yellow blossoms a bit too.
I love Spring, even though I've never experienced living through a snowy winter the way so many of you have.

(111,254 posts)but in my gardens in eastern Mass, they always arrived just after the crocuses and grape hyacinths.
But I know what you mean, anything poking above the snow was cause for jubilation.
