For the last 5 years there has been a neverending pattern of conservatives clutching their pearls and crying tyranny. Often it can be something like spying on American citizens and they cry out that Obama has destroyed American freedom, even though, as in the case of Sean Hannity, the program started under Bush and Hannity was a very vocal supporter of the program under Bush.
But invocations of tyranny are usually limited to past tyrants like Stalin or Hitler, not current ones. And for good reason current tyrants still continue to do horrible things that would make the speaker look ridiculous. Apparently Mike Huckabee hasnt figured this part out though, since hes now on record comparing the US to North Korea:
"Im beginning to think theres more freedom in North Korea sometimes than there is in the United States."
The context for this quote is from going to the airport and having to deal with the TSA security. Heres more:
When I go to the airport, I have to get in the surrender position, people put hands all over me, and I have to provide photo ID and a couple of different forms and prove that I really am not going to terrorize the airplane but if I want to go vote I dont need a thing, he continued, according to MSNBC.

(5,364 posts)The right wing fascists were all for the patriot act, because you know "You're with us, or you're with the terrorists" and protecting us from people who "hate us for our freedoms" until 1/20/2009.
They're the big "law & order" types that have a "lock 'em all up and throw away the key" mentality, until they get a traffic ticket, or a DWI, then all of a sudden they're sons of liberty bleating about tyranny of an oppressive government. They go from Judge Dredd to Clearence Darrow in a heartbeat.

(2,286 posts)If you can say, post or televise your disagreement with the leader and government and not be imprisoned, tortured or killed, you are STILL free. BTW, his analogy isn't even close. But I guess if you have shit for brains, it sounds reasonable.

(20,851 posts)So what should we need to vote? Why was turning one of your fingers blue in Afghanistan a great symbolic moment and good enough for them, but registering to vote and showing up at your polling place not good enough here in the US?
