Pastor John Hagee: Tuesday’s ‘blood moon’ eclipse signals the end of the world

By David Edwards
Monday, April 14, 2014 12:43 EDT

Pastor John Hagee is warning members of his megachurch to prepare for the end of the world because a “blood moon” eclipse on Tuesday is signaling that the End Times could be beginning.

On Tuesday, most of the United States will be treated to the first of four complete lunar eclipses — which scientists call a tetrad — occurring in six month intervals. The eclipses are often referred to as “blood moons” because as sunlight shines on the moon through the Earth’s atmosphere, it gives the moon a red color.

Hagee, pastor of Texas’ Cornerstone Church, has written a book on the phenomenon titled Blood Moons: Something is About to Change. And he is airing a live television event on Tuesday to reveal “direct connections between four upcoming blood-moon eclipses and what they portend for Israel and all of humankind.”

“Is this the end of the age?” Hagee asked during a recent sermon, before quoting Acts 2:19-20: And I will show wonders in Heaven above and signs in the Earth beneath, the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.”

Mail Message
On Mon Apr 14, 2014, 08:33 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4821644

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

While I can understand the dislike of this person, we do have some standards of decency. His over to top usage of language is not in any way decent, and is highly inappropriate.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Apr 14, 2014, 08:44 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Yeah, it's classless name-calling; see it all the time here, this post just trotted out everything ion the profanity closet.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I agree with every word of the alerted post. to whomever alerted on this, no standards of decency should be applied to a god damnable scumbag fuckhead charlatan waste of decent fucking carbon like Hagee. The language used is not over-the-top enough (and, if anything, the post should be locked for that reason). Each word used is personally insulted by having its name applied to Hagee, unanimously proclaiming that Hagee is worse than them and they therefore agree with one point of the alerter: that the words used are highly inappropriate.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh, I see now, we need to use nice words when describing a "Fucking douchebag".
This must be a community standards thing, like pornography or selling liquor.

Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter, whatever you do, do NOT enter the Lounge.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

only to have it not happen?

Michelle Bachmann stated last year the end is near. This is a chorus with them.

But neither their adherents or followers seem angry when these prophesies by the men and women "in the know" (because they have a hotline directly to God) are wrong time and time again.

The ones who believe this stuff are seriously mentally challenged. They lack the skills to engage in rational thought.

And so on Wednesday the sun will rise in the east and set in the west. Life will go on. Nothing will happen and the gullible will continue to be gullible.

As a Christian I know Jesus said no one will know when the end is coming. I guess these end-times prostitutes haven't read that part of the Bible.

Here's another verse you might consider ... Matthew 24:36: "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows."

The Bible also has something to say about (false) prophets:

2 Peter 2:3: "And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep."

I wonder if there is any correlation between his "collections" and his dooms day predictions?

But it wouldn't actually end humanity, though. OTOH, the Fundies' imaginary End-Times is actually scarier than even the most pessimistic (plausible) AGW scenario because according to the prophecies, *everyone* inevitably dies unless you're one of the "chosen" Christians(yes, not every Christian makes it, btw. Only the "purest" of the "pure" do. And that depends on the individual setup, whether it be the mainstream Fundies like the Hagee church, or even a fringe far-right outfit like the various Christian Identity cults, etc.).

At least climate change doesn't care whether or not you worship the *right* god or not(or any god at all).....
