When one person kills another, it's usually called a murder. But when one person cloaks himself in political regalia and a quarter million people needlessly die violent deaths, it's called something else and he goes fly fishing in Montana or paints to while away the hours. Well, apparently when people hard on their luck or of retirement age after paying into social security for decades it's derogatorily called an "entitlement"--something for "takers". Yet but when someone helps himself to a million dollars in evaded fees and claims he doesn't recognize the government of the country he was lucky enough to be born into, it's not not equated with the "entitlements" of a civil society but some kind of right or "freedom". Republican logic at the top has gotten very enamored with these peculiarities of distinction in the last couple of decades.
Help a person who lost a job with some extended unemployment? Entitlement. Pay social security back to someone who paid in? Entitlement. Help a scofflaw evade $1,000,000 in business expenses and keep all his booty? Call it freedom and back it up by summoning armed crusaders without a clue who think freedom as well as roads, the order of having a police force, fire department, disaster relief, education--those all just magically happen as if a provision by god. Maybe it has something to do with taking creationism too seriously or getting something else about their beliefs all cocked up. But there sure is a lot of entitlement to people who can't seem to stand to see anyone else enjoy the little benefits of living in a civilization--a civilization which also includes one Cliven Bundy when he loads up on groceries safely at the Piggly Wiggly or whatever.
...
Mr. Bundy had the privilege to pay one tenth of the fees he would have if he were to feed and water his cattle on state land. But entitled as he deemed himself he just took and took and took for years. He was billed. And like a POS dead-beat, he declined to pay his debts. It wasn't news that businesses have costs. To have a pompous shit-for-brain stiff like Sean Hannity raising the stakes with hypothetical far fetched questions harking back to Ruby Ridge and Waco to sound the alarm for every Ted Nugent to show up locked, loaded and strapped for a new American civil war over this is a bridge too far. It is reckless, selfish, irresponsible and criminal in its base. And god forbid violence leads to deadly bloodshed over Hannity and Company's shit kicking for ratings and giggles. That will be the end of Fox Noise at it has operated. It's a wonder it hasn't already caused violence having had Glen Beck's demented conspiracy theory program so close to its "news" products for years where low information voters (if not actors) had one thing running right into the other where there was no line between news and sheer ad-hoc paranoiac ramblings.

(5,611 posts)over there is palpable -- it seeps out of their pores. Greta, Meghan, Bill, Hannity -- have all reached a feverish level of hysteria. Their voices shake with "emotion," they are"outraged" by every single action the administration takes (or doesn't take -- their pundits wanted war with Russia on day one). Anybody else wonder where they all were when Reagan pushed through the grazing laws in the first place? They are just too dumb to read history (or even wikipedia).
Everyday Fox features a hysterical story about the doom of the nation due to Obamacare, this idiot story about the tax deadbeat rancher, etc. Fox is engaging in hard-core propaganda at this point, and as you said if they continue to whip up the crazies over a ridiculous non-cause rooted in Reagan's grazing laws (in an election year, so there is no question Fox has a goal in mind) then they should bear the moral culpability for any violence these losers unleash, with their wives and daughters as "human shields" (silly me -- I thought these guys considered themselves chivalrous)

They have one mission, to further the right wing agenda, the last 5-1/2 years has been anything against Obama, but always negative to Democrats.

(233 posts)Fox may be the epitome of the worst that happens in corporate media, but they are ubiquitous across the nation. Their numerous channels are carried free by all TV broadcasters. We all know the talking points that are handed down each day as part of the script to be used by the anchors. We all know Fox panders to the least informed, and strives to keep them ignorant. We know that Fox appeals to the most base instincts of their viewers as the blonds with the short skirts breathlessly deliver the "news." The morning morons deserve to be parodied by late-night comedians.
Fox is not a news channel -- it is a propaganda channel -- we deride them and we expose their lies, but they remain as the go-to channel for much of America, especially in rural and southern areas, where the channel enjoys extremely high viewership. When people have few choices for news, and Fox is the biggest and most prolific outlet of propaganda, misinformation and disinformation, it will take creativity and a whole lot of money to counter their influence. I don't see it on the horizon. as Fox uses their multi-outlets to debase and defame any and all critics -- and of course, their viewers believe them.

Wash, rinse, repeat: Fox News is a terrorist organization bent on the destruction of democracy the same as al Qaeda.

(26,630 posts)the murder of a good and decent man who helped women was directly attributed to Fox. Bill O'Rielly should be in prison with the murderer of George Tiller, they should be sharing a cell. But Bill never shuts up and keeps talking his shit even after Dr. Tiller is dead and buried.

(8,571 posts)Yes. That kind of hate speech incites people to do violence. Faux doesn't care one bit either. Their bottom line is ratings and that all mighty dollar.

Its hard to know exactly where to start with this clip from Sean Hannity, Cliven Bundys biggest fan, and the only person on Fox whose name ironically triggers the spellcheck auto-correct Humanity. What makes that especially ironic is that in this interview, its pretty clear that Hannity A) takes credit for making Bundy a household name, and B) would love to incite some violence in his name for extra-great headlines.
At this point, were starting to wonder if Rupert Murdoch and his scion reporters run on blood as utterly as any mythical Carpathian count, made ever youthful by life-sustaining gore, and powerful by human suffering. Apparently dissatisfied with the notion that he wont have dead martyrs to talk about, Hannity spends the entire segment giving Bundy and his children quotes from Harry Reid and the BLM meant to provoke panic and violence on the part of Bundys militants. He begins, of course, with the Fox! News! ALERT! graphic, to the sound of bells tolling for thee.
-snip-
For the next several minutes, Hannity chats with Cliven and his two children, working the theyre coming to get you, Elanor angle as hard as possible. He succeeds in getting Bundy to effectively commit to a violent response, if anyone but the Sheriff of Clark County comes to arrest him.
Hannity seems satisfied with the declaration of willing bloodshed, though it remains to be seen whether Bundys clan is planning on using their (apparently swimming) women and children as human shields again. Or, whether theyre planning on extending their little camping trip forever, because theres just so much work and means of support for 1,000-plus people in the middle of Clark County, Nevada. Maybe theyll eat the cows.
But, as is standard procedure for Fox, Hannity is content for the moment simply to consume the miasma of impending bloodshed, while Bundy sits back, does interviews, and consigns his tools to die for his New Deseret.
