Looked up the song Still the One on Wikipedia. Clicked "John Hall"...went to an article about a politician. Apparently, Sonny Bono isn't the only
'70s entertainer to serve in Congress. John Hall served in New York's 19th district, basically the no-name lands between Albany and NYC.
I've been following national politics for about 6 years (I was a senior in HS when Obama became president) and have known about Orleans' top 2 hits "Still the One" and "Dance with Me" for longer but never knew the guy who sang those songs served in Congress.
Also found this page; learned that Martha Reeves (Martha and the Vandellas) was a Detroit City Council member and Helen Reddy ("I Am Woman" served on California Parks & Rec commission during Jerry Brown's first governorship.

Fred Grandy (Gopher from the Love Boat), and Ben Jones (Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard) were both congressmen. Peter Garrett (the guy from Midnight Oil) is in Australia's House of Representatives, too.

The NY 19th is in the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, and includes places like Woodstock and Saugerties. Definitely NOT no-name lands. A lot of very wealthy people have summer homes in the Hudson Valley. It's actually one of the nicest places in the country.
