I just installed the NEW Microsoft Security Update for Windows XP

Posting this because there were a zilion articles this morning saying there would NOT be a patch

Despite Microsoft saying they would not do any more security patches for Windows XP, they decided the bad PR from the new IE security hole wouldn't be much helped by refusing to fix the problem for millions of XP users.

So there is an XP patch from Microsoft for the vulnerability.

I don't use IE much (prefer Chrome for most purposes) but figured I might as well fix the OMG! vulnerability.

If you use XP and have Internet Explorer installed your Automatic Updates may still be turned on, but if you don't know or want to fix the thing right away...

Go to windows update.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

It should check to see that you have automatic update software. (Which you do unless you took steps to remove it somehow.)

Select EXPRESS. Follow instructions, if any.

The dll that does most of IE's functions also does things for the desktop, folder display, etc., so you can't just say "I use Chrome" and ignore it; IE is still lurking way down in your operating system...
