Here's a photo of the Satan statue coming to Oklahoma Capitol

There’s a statue of the Dark Lordcoming to the Oklahoma State Captiol building, and now VICE has photos. An organization called the Satanic Temple is building the monument in response to a statue of the 10-commandments that’s displayed on the Capitol grounds.

There’s also an interview with Temple leader Lucien Greaves (née Douglas Mesner), who is sharp and lucid as always.

Greaves told me that “the idea that the Ten Commandments are foundational to US or Oklahoman law is absurd and obscene… I would argue that the message behind our monument speaks more directly to the formation of US Constitutional values than the Ten Commandments possibly could. It especially does so when it stands directly beside the Ten Commandments, as it affirms no one religion enjoys legal preference.”

The ACLU is filing a lawsuit over the Ten Commandments statue, which, if successful, would likely mean the end of the Baphomet statue as well: “We are fully willing to place our monument at the Capitol, even while the ACLU suit is fought, with the understanding that a judgment against the Ten Commandments will have ramifications for our monument as well, likely resulting in the removal of both.”

I'm a Luciferian Satanist. Our faith proposes that god is a murdering prick completely unworthy of worship and that Satan (whom we call Lucifer) is teh righteous rebel against the throne.

Christian, Satanist, Tooth Fairiest... whomever they are, are we going to keep littering the state grounds with all the deities that they can think of in order to show that no one deity is given preference?

That being said, have the Pastafarians commissioned a statue of His Noodly Appendage?

Filling the state grounds with dozens of imaginary creatures (or deities held in high regard) does nothing except make the citizens of the state look increasingly sillier.

If the Christians get to set up their statue, why can't we (Satanists) put one of our own up? And yes, the Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Pastafarians should be able to add statues of their own. As I understand it, Islam forbids representative art but maybe they could contribute some nice abstract piece. And if the atheists can agree on what/who they'd like to be represented by, they should be able to put up a statue as well.

You might find it silly but I'd actually find it somewhat inspiring.

"Yes, son?"

"What does regret mean?"

"Well, son, a funny thing about regret is that better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, be sure to tell her SATAN, SATAN, SATAN!!!"

I read up on this group a bit and they are definitely not scary. They are mostly into gourmet cooking and reading. Not orgies and sacrificing babies.

Christian fundamentalists . . . now they are scary.

Impressive talent. It's not as easy to cartoon as one may think. We had a small section in art class in '73 and even though I could draw coming up with 3 panels that told a little story with a punch line was harder than heck.
