Washington (AFP) - Michelle Obama on Wednesday expressed sympathy for the more than 200 schoolgirls abducted in Nigeria, in a personal message on Twitter.
"Our prayers are with the missing Nigerian girls and their families. It's time to #BringBackOurGirls," said the US First Lady on her @FLOTUS account, with a picture of her solemnly holding a sign saying #BringBackOurGirls" scribbled in black on white paper.
The tweet was signed "mo," meaning she wrote it herself, and it was retweeted more than 8,500 times in just a few hours.
President Barack Obama on Tuesday called the mass kidnapping three weeks ago by Boko Haram Islamists "heartbreaking" and "outrageous."

(68,918 posts)You do realize that Mrs. Obama is just a person, privileged to do as she wishes, and I don't have to feel ashamed for feeling that prayers are a waste of time. Right? It's great that she finds comfort in that. I happen not to.

(9,766 posts)Which I expect from Progressives. Which is why I'm cofounded by all of the negative comments that invariably pop up when someone mentions the word 'prayer'.
I truly don't understand it.

(40,416 posts)That's why I despise it when government folks -- and their spouses -- invoke religion to solve the world's problems. It never seems to work, does it?
Both sides in the US Civil War felt fervently that God was on their side, and both displayed such opinions prominently. It did not stop it from being the bloodiest war on this continent. Thanks, God.
God has nothing to do with what is happening to those young girls. There are no gods. This is nothing but cruel, brutal misogyny.
On edit: I am sure those hundreds of girls can take comfort in all those prayers while they get sold into sex slavery.
Nothing fails like prayer.
