Creeeeeepy- Seattle severed foot, is the thirteenth foot found in B.C. or Wash since 2007

A Port of Seattle spokesman says a human foot in a white sneaker has been found on the shore at a park near Seattle’s Pier 68.

The Seattle Times reports that port spokesman Peter McGraw says volunteers cleaning the park found the shoe and foot Tuesday.

Port police turned both over to the King County medical examiner’s office.

Since 2007, there have been roughly a dozen cases in which a human foot encased in a tennis shoe has washed ashore in regional waters. A number of them were found in British Columbia.

In a couple of cases, investigators determined the feet belonged to men who had been reported missing.

he King County medical examiner's office is hoping the shoe's the clue that will help identify a human foot that washed ashore this week — inside an athletic sneaker — on the shore of a Seattle park.

The medical examiner's office described the shoe Wednesday as a New Balance sneaker, men's size 10 1/2, that is white with blue trim. The particular model was first available for sale in April 2008.

There was also a black cotton Hanes brand sock on the foot.....

A lot of sneakers float. So if you have a body of someone who has drowned, fell overboard, or otherwise involved in a maritime misadventure, then the soft tissue that holds the ankle joint together is going to be lost to things like decomposition and bottom feeding before the bones of the feet encased in the sneaker.

Ankle decomposes, foot inside floaty sneaker rises to the surface and goes on its merry way.

I hope it's not a serial killer (and am sorry for the accidental drowning victims), but here on the East Coast this doesn't seem to happen with great frequency, even with the inland waterways and sounds that would keep victims from going way out to see (which seems to me the only explanation for why accidental drowning victims' remains might remain in the bay area in the Pacific Northwest).

You've gone and explained the whole thing, so we won't have this case to kick around any more. Have you no soul? Couldn't you have just held your tongue?

I am not comforted, really.

Are their 13...or even seven, assuming we've got matches on some of those feet...drowning victims that are known in the area? Maybe they need to start up a "Wear Your Life Vest While Boating" campaign up in there....?

Someone needs to stomp this out right away. You can't let criminals like this get a foothold in your community. I hope that the police are taking steps to catch the perpetrators.

float so the foot detaches from the body. Body disappears. Shoes float to shore. So sad.
