Teen girl kicked out of prom because dads said her dress conjured ‘impure thoughts’

Some sick dads I guess.

A 17-year-old Virginia girl said she was kicked out of a prom for homeschooled teens because she aroused “impure thoughts” in some adult male chaperones.

Clare Ettinger wrote a post on her sister’s blog about the incident, saying that her dress met the event’s dress code but was asked to leave anyway.

The Richmond teen said one of the women who organized the prom checked her dress and she showed her that it met the “fingertip length” requirement.

But the woman reminded her to keep the dress pulled down so it met the requirement.

The 5-foot-9 girl, who said her dress looked short because of her height and long legs, said she was amused to find herself surrounded at the prom by shorter girls in much shorter dresses.

But Clare said she and her friends noticed a group of fathers ogling and talking about her from a balcony above the dance floor, which she said mildly disgusted the teenage girls.

The same chaperone who had checked her dress then pulled her aside while she swayed to the music and talked to her friends.

The woman told her that some of the fathers who volunteered at the event thought her dancing was “too provocative” and could provoke “impure thoughts” in boys at the dance.

Clare told the woman she had not been dancing, but the chaperone insisted her dress was too short and kicked her out of the event.

The teen’s friends left with her, and prom organizers promised to refund their ticket purchases.

So far, only Clare had her money returned.

All we know for sure is that the lady who measured her dress asked her to leave. Who knows what was going on in that woman's head or what may have been said to her.

and when they involve women with whom I am not romantically involved, I curb my impulses.

I would never think to impose my personal repressions on another, especially a young woman feeling her way through the vagaries of budding life.

From the link above:

In the guest post on her sister’s blog, Clare asked Richmond Homeschool Prom to refund her friends’ tickets and “issue an apology for kicking me out of my senior prom because their husbands felt as though my body was something they had a right to control.”

“I’m not responsible for some perverted 45-year-old dad lusting after me because I have a sparkly dress on and a big ass for a teenager,” she concludes. “And if you think I am, then maybe you’re part of the problem.”

You go, Clare!

unfortunately that is deemed inappropriate behavior by a few too many even now. Women of any race with a black or dark skinned male of a different race are slut shamed for some reason. I've seen this happen to conservatively dressed deeply religious virgins too.

And the dress is shorter than any I saw at my prom, which was about 13 years ago. So this is a convenient excuse to deny the real issue.

She never mentions the race of her date only the dress.

Being conservative does not necessarily make one opposed to mixed race couples. A couple of examples

1) Clarence Thomas is married to a white woman.

2) L.A. Clippers power forward Blake Griffin father's black while his mother is white. He was home schooled till the seventh grade. His parents are fundamentalists, Griffin expresses belief in creationism as a result.

http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/blake-griffin-plays-coy-about-kate-upton-not-about-creationism-20140415

If reads comments on the internet it's quite obvious racism is not dead. I just need to see more from the story of the girl's prom to say yes it was an issue in this case.

Given the quote from Clare at the end of the OP linked article (quoted in my post above), Clare could easily be smart enough to realize the real reason and to shame the people in charge by taking their stated reason to the logical conclusion. And her take on it shames the sh*t out of the people in charge.

Either the people in charge are perverted fathers or they are racist bigots. I wonder which they'd prefer to be known as?

I still say:
You go, Clare!

For so many reasons.

Why wasn't there some adult - ANY ADULT - at that function who would stand up for this young lady?

Yes, we all know the "real" reason that she was targeted, and it's disgusting that such blatant racism still exists.

The woman chaperone should be ashamed of herself for going along with this orchestrated attack on this teen. Whether it was for the reason given ("impure thoughts"??? Give me a break!!) or for the obvious reason.
