Sam joined the St Louis Rams on Saturday in the seventh round of the draft, making history as the first openly gay NFL player.
Oprah announced today that cameras will follow Sam as he embarks on his journey with the team, for an untitled TV documentary on her OWN network.
She said: We are honoured that Michael is trusting us with his private journey in this moment that has not only made history but will shape it forever
I am proud of the focus on authentic storytelling in our new documentary series format.

(1,975 posts)From what I hear his agent is fresh out of school, and is a rookie himself. Sam said he wants to be known for be a great football player, not "that gay football guy". Having Oprah following him around is not in his best interest IMO.

(16,399 posts)Michael Sam needs to focus on doing his job in making the Rams roster and shutting up the naysayers who say he'll be cut by the end of camp, not being a puppet for Oprah's media empire and it's ratings.

(2,273 posts)The Rams need to have the media banned from their facilities or this kid is going to get chewed up. If the Rams don't do this then it tells me they want the media circus and really don't care about Michael Sam, they just want to sell tickets and tee-shirts.
