****WCGreen Update -- Thursday, May 15, 2014****

Last edited Fri May 16, 2014, 12:20 AM - Edit history (1)

From his wife:

Please email me your phone number if Chris had it and I don't. His phone has disappeared at the hospital. My email is ldg_4@hotmail.com. Thanks!

The latest thing that prevented Chris from going to Kindred was that he pulled out his feed tube when he was sleepy. This required the doctors to reinsert it and send Chris to x-ray to make sure it is in the right place. So, he is wearing a type of corset that protects tubes so they are not pulled out. It can be hot, unfortunately.

On edit: His wife gave me permission to post her email here in GD.

I think he will. He has much to live for...

He was so very sick before the transplant that he has an extra high hill of recovery to climb.

my husband had a BMT for MDS/AML over 3 years ago, but the recovery period for a lung transplant appears to be more of a challenge.

Wishing him and his family a steady recovery

bone marrow transplant for myelodysplastic syndrome that developed into acute myeloid leukemia. I wish that I had never heard of those acronyms. We just move along and take it one step at a time

I'll bet you wish you'd never heard of them.

That is one tough disease to recover from...

I hope he's doing well!

You're both in my thoughts...

he is doing well, the recovery from a lung transplant appears to be longer. Remind Chris it is not a sprint, but a marathon, one step at a time. Although I think he already knows this!

There is always a chance they could have left it out.

When patients started pulling tubes, it was a sign they were getting better.

However, his swallowing is complicated by the fact that he's still on the ventilator via tracheostomy. So there's that.

The tube he pulled out wasn't down his throat, but implanted directly into his small intestine.

His stomach is very sensitive and so they decided to bypass it in favor of the gut.

and the last thing he needs is tube feeding in his lungs.

Does he still have a tracheostomy?

And he is still on the ventilator too.

You sound pretty well acquainted with this stuff.

except pediatrics (immune status problems kept me out thank heavens).

So yes, I'm quite familiar with a lot of this. Meds have changed since I retired but what the poor patients go through hasn't.

I hope so...

but less of all three.

As I said, the pattern is breaking. But I might wake up with the outskirts of Ramona if the fire continues to go the way it goes. (Which I do not expect. I expect the fire containment line to be built east wards starting with, because it if reaches that vegetation we are going to see this be really nasty, thick, old growth, for Manzanita, has not burned in decades)
