Local contributions to last week’s Stamp Out Hunger drive added up to 98,197 pounds food — an increase of more than 25,000 pounds over last year.

Branch 5 of the National Association of Letter Carriers along with the Rural Letter Carriers collected nonperishable food items left May 10 at the mailboxes by residents in and around Omaha.

Volunteers from the following groups then helped to sort the food for delivery to pantries: Steamfitters & Plumbers Local 464, IBEW Local 22, Ironworkers 21/27, local ROTC members and the United Way.

Pantries at the Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul received the donations.
