Nice, blame it on the Vets Sheriff

As American military forces return from Iraq and Afghanistan, one Indiana police station is benefiting from a mine-resistant vehicles once used to tour the war zone to combat a new breed of criminal with military training.

'When I first started we really didn’t have the violence that we see today,' Sgt. Dan Downing of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department told Fox 59. 'The weaponry is totally different now that it was in the beginning of my career, plus, you have a lot of people who are coming out of the military that have the ability and knowledge to build IEDs and to defeat law enforcement techniques.' (That have of yet do anything)<---my words

Treating American streets like they were a warzone.

The "new breed of criminal"... But they have no evidence at all that this has even happened.

That prior service LEO that have been downrange and had bullet, RPG's, and mortars inbound are more level headed than the non prior service wanna be LEO's that want the military toys but not have to join.

Besides if this is gonna be "used against this new breed of criminal" these are the guys that used to drive these and know their weakness, like oh, dig a small ditch and watch it roll over, or laugh after they try to start it up after the 8th or 9th time and the damn thing is broke.

There is a police force 30 miles from here that are known for being complete asses. COMPLETE asses. But one cop, an Iraq war vet, was the only one on the force with whom you could reason. He and I had many discussions and arguments over things, but he never took it personally or took it out on me.

Hell, he showed up once at a restaurant where I was working demanding a 16-year-old be sent out to be questioned. I reamed him out, told him that was a violation and he couldn't do that without the kid's parents or attorney present. We went back and forth and I raised my voice frequently in the encounter, as there were prior problems and I was fed up with his department's harassment of poor local working class kids.

Never once did he lose his cool. He actually listened to everything I said and responded with his opinion. He never got out of the car, never threatened me ( as his police chief did on several occasions when I spoke my mind ). Later, he sent an officer over to the boy's family to apologize.

Of course, they found a reason to fire him.

Like every other excuse that the cops come up with to get their hands on more military grade crap. In the 1967 Darrel Gates (Yes that one) formed the first SWAT team. The argument was that criminals were more dangerous than ever before, and they needed the "Special Weapons and Tactics" and thus SWAT began with M-16 rifles.

Then it was bullet proof vests, and the claims of "cop killer" bullets, that have never actually killed a cop outside of a Hollywood epic. Then there was the BatteringRam armored car. Now, every police department wants a tank to go with the rest of the crap. Give it another decade, and every Department will be swearing that criminals now have the upper hand, and the cops need a Tank with a minimum of 155MM main gun, and a vehicle with heat seaking missiles capable of engaging an airborne target at five miles. If you object, either you want the terrorists to win, or you hate cops and want them all dead.

Welcome to the world, if this excuse doesn't fly, the next one will be radical elements of the RW Terrorists, or LW Terrorists, or Radical Islamic Terrorists. You name it, the answer is always the same, we need a tank.

He was a Naval Reserve unit that never was in combat. He joined LAPD in 2005 and got a bad review and went on a rampage because of that.

So its not ok for a cop to have pepper guns that can blind people (actually blow their eyes apart) and and a myriad of other situations of police abusing citizens and you think its good to let these guys have MRAP's? Weird.

through federal grants.

As is the use of them against peaceful protesters.

*I notice that two of the picture links I have used for a long time (attempted below) are gone now, including the one of the elderly woman blasted in the face with spray. I hope someone here saved them.
