I got two brand new batteries, two new tanks and a new charger. Have three different flavors a Cherry Sprite- True menthol- something called swagger more of a licorice flavor. I alternate during the day just to mix it up a little. the strength of the nicotine is 24 and my goal is to drop to 18 next time I have to buy new juice. So far, I have spent almost 60$ and this should last quite a few weeks. Much better than the 70$ a carton of the reg cigs I would by weekly. That first week, I coughed a LOT. WheeZed a LOT but it is getting better. The craving for a real cigarette is not near as strong as thought it would be. I have true expectations that this will be the key to stop smoking. I am excited.
Thank you all for the information and the success stories. I am a believer.

(45,107 posts)Zero nicotine and maybe pick up my vape pen once a day. I can't say enough good things about this vapeing to help with giving up tobacco. Oh and the first 3 bottles of juice? I only used about half of each of those and bought the Monster flavor zero nicotine. That's a hell of a savings. I am a believer because I did it.

(13,594 posts)complete crap. Bad enough to make me not need any stop smoking aid. I think I'd given myself some kind of bronchitis and couldn't breath worth a shit, especially at night and it kept me up for two nights in a row. I was thinking I really did it this time! I must have COPD or something now!
It was about 36 hours off the cigs and I was feeling quite a bit better and got a great nights sleep. It was funny how quickly I felt way better and my lungs felt normal again. Whatever it was, that spooked me into quitting for good. Now I know what someone that needs to be on oxygen all the time must feel like and I never want to end up there.
I was never a very heavy smoker but I always favored the stronger brands and feel like I was a pretty serious deep inhaler. I was afraid that had made me the equivalent of a much heavier smoker. I mentioned all this to my doctor and so far, my lung capicity and oxygen levels are pretty good.
When I quit before I was doing pretty well and got hit by the urge out of the blue and screwed up. I really thought I had it kicked and didn't realize it could happen. It was like major nicotine withdrawl, four months after I quit. It had to be totally in my head but it got me. I smoked one and that was it, I was right back at it. I think this time, the memory of how bad I was feeling and knowing how I screwed up before will help me resist that if and when it happens again.

(31,997 posts)I did it before for about 5 months, then hit a rough patch and thought...why the hell should I quit...so I went back. This time no matter what I am quitting for good...for me!

(110,159 posts)i think the year i have not smoked more than smoked. but ya... this has got to be it. no more going back. not one.
the only thing about cigs is they make you want another.
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)how often do you vape? Seems like I take a drag off the thing quite often. I think it is more than if I were smoking. However, if I were smoking, it would take about 5 minutes to finish a cig. When I vape, I take a pull or two then stop til next time.
Is this typical?

(12,647 posts)24mgs. of nicotine is only about a third of what a cigarette provides. So automatically, you're cutting your nicotine intake by two thirds. That, in and of itself, is a huge reduction. And like you said, you'll puff on a cigarette for an average of 8-10 minutes, yet only take a couple of puffs on the vape and then put it down. I do the same thing but have a tendency to continue holding the vape and just fondle it. LOL Within seven months after quitting cigarettes and taking up the vape, I cut nicotine out completely, and will celebrate a year of not smoking in August. Vaping has been nothing short of a miracle for me to finally kick a forty year habit.
Congrats to you and I wish you continued success toward a healthier life!

(31,997 posts)hacking up a lung?
Oilwellian
(12,647 posts)That's what encouraged me to finally quit. I knew I was pushing my luck and didn't want to lug an oxygen tank around with me in my upcoming golden years. I feel so much better and that constant cough I was developing is completely gone. Woo hoo!
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)I didn't think I coughed like this when I actually smoked.
Oilwellian
(12,647 posts)That means the tiny hairs in your lungs that are called cilia are working to clear your lungs. Cough it up, baby. LOL
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)I am trying to cough it up every time I cough. It is annoying.

(18,186 posts)it paralyzes the cilia for 20 minutes, so yeah, once those cilia can do their job, they are gonna start clearing the gunk out of there. It stops after a few months usually
I have a vape pen but still smoke handrolled. I am very clumsy and active and I keep busting the atomizer. This week I forgot I left it in my car seat while I went in the store and I sat on it
Luckily I have a dear friend with a vape biz ( she set me up for free with my kit and I pay her a little at a time ) and she trades out the tips for me for free when I bust them. She also gives me her sample bottles. I like all the different flavors and combos.
Lately I've been doing a pineapple/coconut mix.
But I'm still not off the regular cigs. I just feel so much better when I stick to the vape.
GOOD FOR YOU for really quitting the regular cigs. I can't imagine paying $70 bucks a week to smoke. I spend about $6 for papers and loose tobacco, but I am hoping to quit also.

(53,959 posts)Your coughing may take a month to 9 months (though, if it lasts more than 3 months and is heavy, see a doctor) to stop completely. You should notice you aren't coughing like you used to (climbing stairs, laughing, cold/really hot weather). The cough is almost a dry one. You may also know a tickle in the back of your throat, which causes coughing. This is also common and can be helped by a throat lozenge. You may think you didn't cough like that when you smoked, but chances are you didn't notice it.
Congrats! Oh, and in case you hadn't heard, you can also have "flu like" symptoms, this is also a "side effect" of quitting. To be honest, I was kvetching to my partner about how they always tell you all the "good" things, but forget to tell you what the other withdrawals are going to be.
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)I woke up this morning and was feeling pretty bad. "flu like" I thought what rotten timing, to get the flu the first day school was out.

(9,796 posts)It's pretty common to almost "chain vape" in the beginning. It's likely because your subconscious is used to smoking in addition to finding something to do with your hands (just a hypothesis but nothing a decent research grant couldn't prove). I did exactly the same for my first couple of weeks.

If it gets difficult, or the cravings gets worse for you; call, text, or email a friend to talk about it and get encouragement. It helps more than you know. Please feel free to pm me if you can't find someone at the time you need them. Just putting it in writing helps the cravings subside.

(7,720 posts)I quit several times during that duration. twice I quite for six months each time, and once for 18 months. I started smoking again each time. I quit for good in December of 2005. I believe the cost alone would make me quit now if I were still a smoker.
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)that was hard to swallow, but it is more the health reasons.
I also didn't realize the time I spent smoking.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)and I never smoked more than a pack a day, and this was mostly before smoking was banned in so many places. I do not even have an urge to smoke anymore. In order to make it easier to keep from smoking I even quit drinking for six months.

(9,796 posts)I'm just over a month of no analogs at all. Flavours are a bit more limited here (UK) but I'm alternating between cherry, cinnamon and a heavy tobacco called "7 Wolves". The coughing is just your body clearing out teh gunk from thirty years of smoking, I had it to for a while.
