Tony Abbott labelled a 'creep' after winking at sex-line pensioner
Tony Abbott, Australia’s prime minister, has been described as a “total creep” after being filmed giving a wink during a radio interview in which a pensioner called in to say she had been forced to work on an adult sex line.
Described by local media as “the wink that sparked a thousand tweets”, Mr Abbott gave a cheeky smirk and a wink at the interviewer during a morning radio call with a 67-year-old grandmother who was complaining about a new fee for visiting doctors.
The call followed widespread anger at Mr Abbott over his first budget last week which critics said was uncaring and unfair to the poor.
Mr Abbott, a gaffe-prone leader who has been accused of being a misogynist, apparently did not know the interview was being filmed and continued to smile but soon adopted a sterner look, apparently after a signal from an aide.
The woman, named Gloria, phoned in to ABC Radio to ask Mr Abbott “if you'd like your mother or your grandmother to be in my situation”.
