Can't vote because you forgot your I.D.? Here's how one Arkansas Republican solved that problem

From Daily Kos http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/05/21/1300891/-Can-t-vote-because-you-forgot-your-I-D-Here-s-how-one-Arkansas-Republican-solved-that-problem?detail=facebook

Republican Asa Hutchinson, the former congressman and current candidate for governor of Arkansas, is a big fan of the state's new voter I.D. law. So what happened when Mr. Hutchinson tried to vote on Tuesday?

Spokesman Christian Olson told The Associated Press that Asa Hutchinson forgot his ID when he attempted to vote at the polls in Bentonville on Tuesday. Olson says a staffer was able to retrieve the ID and bring it to Hutchinson so he could vote.
Olson says Hutchinson thought the incident was a “little bit of an inconvenience” but still believes the law is necessary.
Good point, Asa!
And so, to the elderly or infirm voter who had to arrange for transportation to the polls, to the single mom who managed to find a babysitter for an hour, to the minimum wage worker who ran over to vote during lunch, remember, forgetting your I.D. isn't the end of the world, it's only a "little bit of an inconvenience." Just have your staffer run home and get it for you. Problem solved!

We should all be so elite. I declare: Inequality!!

Asa flagrantly used a government employee for his private business. That's supposed to be illegal. Will he get away with it?

And then have about 1000 people a day call asking for one of his staffers to help them do errands.

Maybe then he'll figure out why some people have a slightly less easy time of it than he does.

It IS an effort for many to even get to the polls after they jump hoops to even get an I.D. Many have to get transportation by paying a neighbor or a distant relative because most of their "drivers" as as poor as they are...meanwhile Mr. Asa gets his transport plus retrieval service on the tax payers dime. Outside of buying a little "help" during election time would they truly sacrifice money and the determination to get to the polls?

election day, and ask whoever answers if one of his staffers could run by their house and pick up their ID for 'em--it would only be a "little bit of an inconvenienc
e," after all, since the voter doesn't have a staffer, why not use one that is ALREADY BEING PAID BY THE TAXPAYERS?

I think people should demand that he reimburse the government for that "personal service" that had nothing to do with his governmental duties and everything to do with his privilege and laziness and inattentiveness.

Juanita Jean was offended by this GOP official's actions here. http://www.juanitajean.com/2014/05/21/but-asa-not-all-of-us-have-staff/

Asa Hutchinson, the damn Governor of Arkansas and major Voter ID devotee, showed up at the polls yesterday without his voter ID.

But, not to worry …

Spokesman Christian Olson told The Associated Press that Asa Hutchinson forgot his ID when he attempted to vote at the polls in Bentonville on Monday. Olson says a staffer was able to retrieve the ID and bring it to Hutchinson so he could vote.

Hutchinson thought the incident was a “little bit of an inconvenience” but still believes the law is necessary.

So, there ya go – that’s the answer. No ID? Get your staff to retrieve it.

Why the hell didn’t we think of that before now

absolutely captures the loathsome spirit of the Rethuglican party. It needs to spread throughout AK, and I'm in agreement with posters on that point. So when is the next election in Arkansas? Folks might want to phone Asa's office beforehand requesting a staffer. In actual practice, however, in precincts where there are always long lines and hassles, good to plan ahead. If you need a ride, nail one down early, if you have a ride to give, make your availability known again, early.
