Venezuela's efforts to resolve crisis 'total failure': Kerry

(Reuters) - Impatience with the Venezuelan government is growing over its "total failure" to show good faith in talks to resolve the country's political crisis, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday.

SNIP

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, the handpicked successor to the late U.S. antagonist and leftist firebrand Hugo Chavez, has railed against talk of sanctions from Washington, which he terms "the imperialist elitists from the north."

But talks between Maduro's government and the opposition to resolve the crisis have stumbled.

Mediators from the Union of South American States (UNASUR) regional grouping urged both sides back to the negotiating table on Tuesday.

Kerry said "the neighbors" of Venezuela, including the United States, are concerned about the situation there causing regional instability.

But he stressed that Washington is not undertaking any action in Venezuela and, in fact, has reached out to third parties, including the Vatican, to mediate the crisis.

And while the demonstrators in Venezuela have some legitimate beefs, I don't think the opposition is mainly about that. it's mainly about trying to get rid of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Have the Venezuelan cops committed human rights abuses? Probably. I will criticize them for that, but I won't use it as an excuse to try to overthrow the government.

But other than that they are similar.

I don't think either group is trying to overthrow the government.

The student protests in Venezuela started because a girl was raped and when the cops did nothing they protested. It would have blown over but they arrested the students rather than having dialog. This caused mass protests within the student movement, instead of a couple of hundred it became tens of thousands.

I think the students are idiots. As long as the deaths are less than the "normal" murder rate then there won't be an outcry.

Well since this guy Maduro is handpicked and apparently far more worse than late Chavez, US should not be stunned by that. But I do really appreciate, thet as always, John Kerry advances the value of diplomacy and negociating to resolve this issue.

The U.S. has worked tirelessly to fuck up the Venezuela economy.

The U.S. worked tirelessly to oust the late great President Hugo Chavez.

The U.S. has worked tirelessly to demean President Nicolas Maduro.

You didn't even recognize Maduro's win in the elections.

You have attempted coups, you have paid for coup attempts, you disseminate lies, you do everything you can to make the Venezuelan economy scream.

The U.S. does not spread democracy.

The U.S. spreads U.S. style democracy.

It invades country after country and takes what it wants.

We know why Venezuela is so important to the U.S. interests.

Your IMPERIALISM is showing.

You have done enough damage to last a life time.
