Ed just announced he's out of radio production effective Friday 5-23-14. The end of Talk radio just got sooner..... He will be missed on Sirius and other Talk Progressive stations.

Wendy's illness has to have had an effect on him too. Time is precious

(9,463 posts)succeeds and has fun no matter what he does.
He will still have an hour a day and special, on location audio and video reports that he will feature on his website. So all is not lost and maybe he'll be able to put out some quality stuff with his new format.

I sure hope we get some new people to step up. I like the folks we have now, but it's always good to have new faces too.

(32,027 posts)(Edited because of a post below, since Ed's new show is going to be 1 hour only.)
I would suspect that stations like WXXM or WCPT Chicago that currently carry Ed live right now will replace Ed's last 2 hours with Clark Howard (whose show is live 1-3 ET), a consumer advice host. Safest type of show to replace Ed with, since Clark Howard isn't overtly political or right wing at all.
KTNF 950, Ed's affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul, can probably move its local host Nancy Nelson to Ed's last 2 hours and then have all 3 hours of Norman Goldman live at 5.
As for new faces, the best names in progressive media tend to be online, like The Young Turks or David Pakman, since those in America most likely to lean left (people under 35) prefer online media to broadcast media for their info.

(31,234 posts)bring about it's downfall. How many progressive stations have switched to sports coverage? It's not fair, but the airwaves don't really belong to Joe & Jane Sixpack.

(62,421 posts)which is exactly what Comcast and Verizon will do when they get ahold of the internet. Who's going to stop them? There are some other lefties out there like those that sub for Thom Hartmann such as Mike Rogers, or Mike Papantonio or Mine Newcomb.
I hope Stephanie hangs on, but sometimes she has been sounding a bit down, especially after losing Rhandi.

(653 posts)I didn't hear that part though.
I'm still feeling the pain of the loss of Randi Rhodes from the airwaves.
Now this?!?!?
Pakman would, indeed, be a good replacement.

With Randi and Schultz gone... the end is near.
