I would have said no up until a month ago because it's so manifestly a stupid idea, but now I'm not so sure.

(21,786 posts)This is what's eventually going to kill representative government in the USA, by the way. Competing claims of democratic legitimacy between the legislative and executive based on partisan differences. And the Republicans have shown they're quite willing to engage in tactics of destabilising the legitimacy of the executive for partisan ends.

(17,064 posts)The house is gonna do what it wants. Even if GOP gets a Senate majority, they'll still be far short of 67 votes to remove from office.
Spider Jerusalem
(21,786 posts)And a Senate majority would probably be enough to make them think they could get away with it in the court of public opinion.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)There's enough batshit crazy in the GOP House to ram through an impeachment. No way will they get close to 67 votes in the Senate, though. And the impeachment vote will blow up in their faces, again.

(21,115 posts)Left is all just posturing then?
So shouldnt some on DU be joining ranks with Michelle Bachmann and cheering this on? They accuse him of all sorts of misbehavior.....dont they agree eith the Teabaggers on this?
WinkyDink
(51,311 posts)as you seem to think.
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)It goes to high crimes.....either they believe what they say and join the Baggers or its just posturing lip service...in other words they are full of excrement!

(45,319 posts)on DU are often asked to show what they mean, but they never do. That is because they are being hyperbolic in a rush to slam, bash, and slander good Democratic voters for being responsible citizens. Trash talk is the whole point, truth is not even a consideration.
VanillaRhapsody
(21,115 posts)How about the drone criticisms for example. Or any number of them accusing him of violsting his oath. Don't try playing games you are not good at it. You really think no one notices? How about the Obamacares Crtiics. You know hr is a "POS used car salesman". Shouldt he agree with the Baggers? Or how about the Snowden fans?
el_bryanto
(11,804 posts)I think that most of the arguments about drone warfare or even the surveillance state are more about whether things should be legal; I don't think people are actually calling for Obama to be impeached, other than a few isolated cases.

(21,115 posts)"Independent" voting friends...arent they in agreement with the Tealiban?
The fact that on a Democratic forum the "BOG" needed to even exist proves you wrong
el_bryanto
(11,804 posts)I doubt they are in agreement with the Tealiban who probably have no real problem with the drones, and only a bit of a problem with the surveillance state (specifically, they wouldn't mind it if a Republican were working it).

(21,115 posts)On a Democratic forum that speaks volumes about the level of "criticisn" you claim is so mild...
el_bryanto
(11,804 posts)And I think that the Tea Party and those at DU who are upset with the president are upset about different things.

(21,115 posts)The next spate of ODS i will remind them that you said that!!!!
That means you are saying they have even more in common than even I accused them of!!!

(21,115 posts)Of course you cannot "deal with it". That doesnt surprise me at all....nor does your attempt to insult me....thats the standard response when you can't
el_bryanto
(11,804 posts)Obamas done some good things and some bad things - in the areas of foreign policy his record is mixed, in the area of the surveillance state his record is bad.

(21,115 posts)Why would the BOG even exist on a Democratic forum at all? THAT is the reality that proves my point!

(16,286 posts)impeach Obama.
Boehner will stick his finger in the air and determine if doing so helps him or not, never mind there are no grounds to do it, but that wont stop them.

(12,723 posts)the republican party. If they actually start impeaching every democratic president elected I would think most americans would be fed up.
Prophet 451
(9,796 posts)Now, they won't get anywhere near the 67 needed to convict. But the House is batshit enough to start impeachment and if they can count on a bare majority in the Senate, they'd see that as a moral victory.
