But at the time right wingers wanted to impeach because of civil rights rulings like Brown v Board of education.

In fact, I've been thinking about it all day and thinking how good they'd look with Scalia, Alito, et al on them.

The topic du jour of paranoid drivel may change, but its basic essence never seems to.

The John Birch Society sponsored them, and you'd see them on the freeways in Los Angeles and Orange County. The impeachment never occurred. It will not occur now, either.

Impeachment begins in the House of Representatives. Since that body is currently controlled by the Republicans, there is no chance that impeachment proceedings against any Justice will be brought to the floor.

Want to impeach some SCOTUS justices? Start by electing a Democratic majority in the House and a super-majority in the Senate. The election is in November. Until we do that, all of this impeachment talk is pure bunkum. We need to lay the foundation for Democratic control, and that's not going to happen through futile calls for impeachment. It will happen through dedication, activism, and hard, hard work.

I was venting and -- with irony -- indulging in a little fantasy which i acknowledged will never happen.

There is a path toward a new SCOTUS. It's not a fantasy, either. It's called election activism, and that's what I suggest we do. I suggest that we focus strongly on that goal and leave the fantasies behind. The recent SCOTUS decision is ammunition we can use to increase Democratic turnout in the November election. If we do not do that, we do nothing.

I'm weary of fantasies. They waste our time and energy.

Lighten up.

I wasn't seriously suggesting that proposal. Just letting off steam in frustration at these so-called "justices." Using a little ironic humor.

I wasn't saying don't vote, don't organize...all that.

Just venting. If you think my humor as too dry or misplaced, so be it. But fer goshsakes, This is a discussion board.

You want some billboards? How about some billboards with the conservative justices on them and text saying:

These Men Want to Take Away Your Reproductive Rights! Vote for Democrats in November!

I don't consider 2014 to be a time for lightening up. I consider it a time for continuous activism until November.

This is a discussion forum. I'm discussing. I do not appreciate being told not to express my opinion or to lighten up. This is serious business.

But if every post that is not a straight, serious "organize and get out and vote" were removed from DU, there's be about five threads a day, and this would be a very boring place.

I will reply to whatever I want to reply to. I don't find impeachment to be anything humorous, especially if it is not even a possibility. My billboard suggestion could be done and might actually help. Yours can't and wouldn't.

Why can we not suggest things that are both interesting and still useful? The Earl Warren impeachment campaign was silly and worthless. There was no chance that it would happen and it made the John Birch Society even more ludicrous than it actually was. Why would we want to duplicate that nonsense in any way?

There's room on DU for all kinds of posts, including humorous posts. You can count on me to enter those humorous posts and attempt to put some sort of positive direction on them, when I can.

Telling me to lighten up does nothing to scale back my commitment to winning in November. I respond poorly to that particular expression. I will never lighten up, but I do make humorous comments when they are called for.
