5 Stories the Media Constantly Lets Republicans Blatantly Lie About

5 Stories the Media Constantly Lets Republicans Blatantly Lie About
June 30, 2014 By Allen Clifton

While the media has never been perfect, it’s become an absolute joke these last few years. But what should we expect? We’ve allowed our news to become dictated by corporations. Now it’s ad revenue that drives the news, not actual quality reporting.

Over the weekend as I watched several different news channels, it infuriated me how often I saw Republicans perpetuating some kind of lie while the host or interviewer didn’t once try to correct them. And I wasn’t even watching Fox News where this kind of behavior should be expected.

So here are five claims or stories I’ve seen recently where Republicans have blatantly lied, yet hardly anyone in the mainstream media has called them out for doing so.

The IRS Investigation

Time and time again I see Republicans perpetuate this idea that this entire “scandal” revolves around conservative groups being unfairly targeted by the IRS.

Yet never once do I see anyone in the media mention the fact that there’s evidence we’ve known about for quite some time showing that liberal groups were targeted as well.

Dick Cheney

You know how many times I’ve seen him sit there blaming President Obama for pulling our troops out of Iraq in 2011? Yet I’ve rarely seen anyone in the media play his clip from 2009 where he stated that the plan to remove all U.S. troops from Iraq was a sign that the war was successful.

The plan George W. Bush signed with the Iraqi government - not President Obama.

Domestic Drilling for Oil

“Drill baby drill!” – quite possibly the dumbest phrase ever uttered by any individual in a discussion about the price of oil. Why is it when oil prices are mentioned, or domestic drilling is brought up, Republicans get away with perpetuating this idea that the oil we drill domestically is kept here for us to use?

Some is, yes. But the majority of it is taken and sold on the global market to the highest bidder. We can drill domestically all we want, but as long as it’s allowed to be sold and manipulated by Wall Street speculation, we’re not going to see some kind of drop in the price of gasoline.

And the last time I checked, Republicans weren’t lobbying to socialize our oil production.

Even on MSNBC (and not just Morning Joke), time and again, Repubs get to talk about 'The IRS scandal' of 'targeting conservatives' without having reality pointed out to them. We KNOW that there was simply no vacuum targeting of 'conservatives', but that they were (quite properly) investigated alongside liberal groups, and that, in fact, liberal groups were treated even more severely.

1) The shift by MSM to the corporate right is in the main complete; there'll be no more investigative journalism or golden age of anything;

2) If MSM wants to go "fair & balance," it will wait for noted Democrats to push back. Trouble is, the Democrats in the Beltway are loath to do that;

3) The far right is the most powerful force by far in the U.S. MSM is afraid of Cheney & his ilk, and don't want to be on his bad side when they muscle back into office de jur. MSM don't give a shit about Democrats & their lack of juice.

The talk shows are a kabuki theater, you get to hear two sides, but on topics chosen by the right. Then the commercials are mainly feel good pieces about natural gas. And Boeing, what I am supposed to do, buy a jet?
