Be realistic. GOP can win this midterms, both chambers. And we must be prepared of an impeachment process prospect, even if its a completly horrible and despicable thing. But they are determined. Hosting in GD is completely dysfunctional. There needs to be much more turnover of Hosts if the system is to work at all. I've got 3 suggestions for Hosting:

90 day terms in Forums are way too long - make 'em 30 days.

Getting a hidden post should dump you out of Forum Hosting for 7 days. You can get back on the waiting list 7 days after your most recent hide.

An SOP alert should automatically generate a thread in the Host Forum, in the form of a time-limited poll. A straight up or down, Leave or Lock vote would be open for 1 hour after the alert. After the hour is up, the MAJORITY vote is what decides the fate of the alerted on thread, which can be automatically locked (like a juried post) or left open. Allow votes to be changed during the hour (to allow for discussion of the thread in question)


IMO, shortening the term, increasing the turn-over, and automating the Lock/Leave decision process would eliminate much of the dysfunction.

A lot of the drama in the hosts forum is from folks trying to do their jobs vs those who are happy with the current state of never ending garbage that has blanketed GD for years. And it's really funny that most of the ones crying the loudest about being (rightfully) called out for being sucky hosts are the ones that are trying to restrain who can say what in the hosts forum instead of actually doing the fairly easy job that they have VOLUNTEERED to do.

And if they do win the senate they will try to impeach. It will tie up lots of time, create a big circus, and nothing constructive or helpful will happen in congress that helps the average person. Democrats need to get people out to vote who traditionally skip non presidential elections. Democratic candidates should start by informing voters of what they will gain, how their life will be made better, what they will do once in office should they maintain the senate and win the house. Illustrate what they will do with a true majority capable of overcoming republican obstruction. It is a better motivator. Telling voters what they will lose or should be afraid of only encourages apathy.

As far as "being prepared for impeachment" goes, you need a 2/3rds majority in the Senate for it to succeed. That will not happen. Resigning rather than having the Senate turn down whatever trumped up charges Republicans might bring would be the dumbest move imaginable. Only CK_John would suggest it.
