On the heels of the depression, then the beginnings of reform and becoming a world player with WW2 on deck.

We rebounded, became and economic superpower and had a number of great FDR programs running.

Of course, we've lost our way.

The New Deal, Social Security, technological advances as a result of the war (nuclear energy, jet aircraft, space travel), the GI bill, the rise of the USA as the world's dominant military and industrial power following the large-scale destruction of much of European industrial capacity, and so on.
