(5,644 posts)is she what is referred to as a blue dog democrat?
kentuck
(111,089 posts)She had Elizabeth Warren campaigning with her the other day. Her biggest challenge is winning over the miners in Eastern Kentucky. She has been talking to everybody, traveling the state.
If she's alright with President Warren...erm..Senator Warren, she's alright with me.
A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)She's not especially liberal but she would be so much better than McConnell. Go Grimes!

(21,475 posts)"yellow dog" comes from "I would rather vote for a yella dog before I would vote for a Republican" Before the 2000 election the color blue was always associated with Republicans. Somehow, and I really can't recall how or why the colors got switched, andway a "blue dog Democrat" referred to a Democrat that sided with Republicans quite often. The term stuck but shoud be changed to red dog Democrat to represent the current meaning to everyone.
A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)That makes sense I guess but I still don't like those terms. I don't know what's wrong with "liberal democrat" and "conservative democrat" - much less confusion.

(2,785 posts)To me comes from labor. Back in the old days companies use to set up their own fake unions to prevent themselves from being organized by real unions. Unions that were set up and ran by the companies themselves were referred to as yellow dog unions. The term blue dog Democrat is just something a group of pro business Democrats decided to call themselves.

(396 posts)have to contemplate the lying liar known as Mitch, I think the people of Kentucky deserve better than another Senator in bed w/ big coal whether they put an R or a D behind their names.
kentuck
(111,089 posts)Big Coal has shrunk dramatically but is an important political bloc in Kentucky.

(3,696 posts)I noticed the polls that have Mcconell leading are all Republican pollsters. The few non-R polls have Grimes tied or leading. The problem is that there is a slew of R polls including in all averages which supports the media talking point that Mitch is leading. I think these R pollsters will have egg on their face in the end. Charlie Cook has deemed this race the closest Senate race in the country which i probably closer to the truth. Take a look at the summary of polls at Huffington Post or Real Clear Politics for a list of all polls conducted in the past couple of months.
Where's Uncle Joe? Someone attach Elvis Costello's song. That's such a good pic of her! Last thing I heard is that she's running 2 points ahead of him, 48-46%! Go Alison!!!!

We need to win this one and retire McConnell.

(12,545 posts)lead in the polls to avoid a rigged election that can withstand plausible deniability. Anything under five points can be explained away. And Republicans have no qualms about election rigging. Ask Max Cleland.

(9,654 posts)Results Drastically Changed
The election numbers have radically changed in Monroe County since the May 18th election. At least as reported on the SoS website, and as confirmed by local officials.
It's not all that unusual for the unofficial numbers to move a bit following election day, as absentee and provisional ballots are counted and added in to the totals, and as precinct numbers are double-checked for accuracy in the post-election canvass. It is, however, unusual, for vote totals to get a great deal smaller rather than larger in the days following the election. And that's what seems to have happened in Monroe County --- radically so.
Somehow, more than a thousand votes disappeared entirely, as the election results in the Dem and GOP Senate primaries have almost entirely changed.
On May 19th, voter turnout was 3,393:
But by May 21st, turnout dropped by 1,234 to just 2,159, or 41.11% --- still one of the highest turnout rates in the state:
