Back in 2012, I posted this thread about 90 year old Archie Hackney meeting a sitting president for the first time. It was an extremely touching photo, as Archie attempts to stand to greet the President.
Well earlier this week, I noticed someone had replied - his daughter, Vicki.
She said Archie passed away earlier this year.
What a life he must've lived!
God Bless, Archie!

(6,151 posts)Yes, Archie did live quite a life, didn't he? But we all have stories to tell. One reason I so loved John Steinbeck is because he could take someone most of us might think of as ordinary, maybe even boring, and then show us how fascinating the character really was. I think 'The Wayward Bus' illustrated this best. Fortunately I found 'East of Eden' to read on the QT when I was only 12, so I didn't have to wade through a lot of drivel posing as literature.
