(UPDATE:7am)That was weird.Heard someone(something) beating on or around my bedroom window.

Last edited Sat Jul 5, 2014, 07:28 AM - Edit history (1)

I was sound asleep when I woke up to a noise of whatever banging around the outside of my apartment window. It took me a minute to orient myself.

It wasn't a frantic banging or a rhythmic noise. Then it stopped. It hadn't lasted very long.

Now this is the part in the movie where the terrified college girl goes to investigate a scary noise in the dark while everyone is thinking "DON'T GO!"

This is also where the jacked up gun fool decides he is going to confront whatever is making the noise instead staying inside and calling the police regardless of the fact that there probably will be shooting (and injury or death.) Then there is the sad fact that the cop may be jacked up too resulting in the same outcome. (I don't have a gun, but I am not going outside to be in the middle of anything)

I'm not terrified, but I'm not going outside. I will check when the sun is up. I 'm wide awake now though.

UPDATE: Now that the sun's up, I went outside to see what I could see. I saw nada.
I'm going to ask my upstairs neighbor if she heard anything. She also has a teenage daughter who might have heard something.
Just checkin'.

Might have been one firing off at the wrong angle. Had this happen to me once - A neighbor was firing off some, but the launch stand/tube/whatever for it got knocked over after they lit it. The firework fired, and ended up going off on my porch.

Then again, could have been kids just running around setting off blackcats/whateverbrand (Or stronger M-80's) in front of houses to scare people. I've had a few friends who did that in the past.

I've done that before, and specified that if they would just drive down our street and put the spotlight on
the yard from their vehicle that would probably do the trick. They don't seem to mind....

I fell asleep on the couch, and I awakened to hear a tap, tap, taping on my front window. I walked toward it just as a face pushed into the pane. It took me a minute to recognize who it was -- a male friend pulling a trick on me. I didn't think it was at all funny, but he apparently did.

And while you're waiting, here's a story from back when I shared living space with several others. One night one of the guys came upstairs from his basement bedroom, telling us to go into our rooms and lock our doors; he'd heard someone trying to get in his window, and after warning us he retrieved his hunting rifle from its case and waited by the back door, watching the back of the house until the police arrived. After a few minutes we heard him talking with the police, clearly no longer worried or concerned. He finally came back into the house, unloaded his rifle and put it away. He then proceeded to explain that the officers had discovered a mother rabbit trying to retrieve one of her babies that had fallen into the window well. We shared his relief but not his embarrassment, and if he's not careful he still gets teased about the "killer bunny".

And the police, by the way, assured him that he was right to call them.

I called the police, she kept me on the phone. Police were there in about 4 minutes. Checked everywhere. Turns out there was a gang doing that before they broke into houses.

Several years ago, but I never forgot it. I have outside lights on at all 3 doors now at night.

Now listen grits if it happens again you call the police.

The person or monster would clearly be visible unless they were hunched down behind the bushes which aren't that tall.
In addition, some people here are related to Gladys Kravitz. I talked to someone at the apartment office once and she told me of some incidents that had been reported that turned out to be nothing. She didn't tell me who reported them, but I can't imagine that a noise like that wouldn't wake up someone besides me.

Or you could come outside and point me north so I can get back to the right Carolina.

Joking aside, it wouldn't hurt to have the cops come check and see if anything or anyone is out there. They probably get bored at night and would appreciate the possible excitement to pass the time.

I know that if the police are acting in SC like they are in NC tonight, anything goes. The cops won't make a peep unless a person is driving funny or murders someone or calls them and makes them come check things. They are simply ignoring numerous noise ordinances, gunshots in residential areas and other gun related violations, and non approved fireworks violations, as usual on holidays here. You'd literally have to murder someone or drive in squiggly lines to get the cops' attention in my hometown tonight.

When my husband and I first were married, we moved to New Castle, DE (to put a bit of distance between us and the rest of the family). We were asleep early one morning about a month after we moved in and were awakened by a young man walking around on the porch roof right outside our bedroom window. The sellers and realtor had neglected to let us know that we were on the St. Anthony's celebration parade route. It was a volunteer hanging red, white and green banners from our porch as a connection point for the strings zig-zagging criss-crossing the intersection.

Being new to the very established old neighborhood, we just sucked it up and expected them each year after that. They never said anything, never asked. When we sold the house 18 yrs after buying it, we DID mention it to the new buyers.
