I have been practicing. Just having some ability to speak Spanish helps a lot! See, there are some great shops down in South Tucson, where they speak a lot of Spanish, it makes shopping there easier. And yes, there are places down there that ARE so worth learning a language for!

communicate with en Espanol. that was my strong incentive to learn it back in the 80s in San Diego.

I saw this movie last night, "Pulling Strings".. on Netflix streaming.. reminded me of back in the day.. It's in Espanol and English.. I activated the "subtitles" for the Spanish part.. and I Enjoyed it!

Diana Hobby, former Lt. Governor's wife, dies

When I worked for the Department of Insurance I was located at the Hobby State Office Building. Each time I went through the front doors I entered into the Hobby Lobby. It's a strange twist of fate that I have to regret it now.

I was the lead statistician on the tort reform project. I identified information to the actuaries that saved insurance consumers about $500M in premiums. It was one of those oddities where the lowest man on the totem poll had the best grasp of available information that resulted in the largest impact on rate savings. I even helped one of my fellow alums from college save a few hundred dollars when his wife was involved in an auto accident. I haven't been back to the Hobby Lobby in that office building since I left the agency.

When I entered the private sector I had a similar impact making a suggestion regarding language in a reinsurance contract that resulted in tens of millions for that company.

For someone with a degree in math I always thought outside the box. Unfortunately, what I received in salary didn't reflect my contributions to the economy when I worked for the state or to the profit/loss statement when I worked in private industry.
