The Right’s Push to Deny Birth Control Is All About Controlling Women

Religion, particularly the Judeo-Christian religions, is now, and has always been about controlling human beings under the guise of worshiping a deity. If it was not about controlling the masses, why in dog’s name do those religion’s deity and holy books include death sentences for failure to worship an unseen deity imposed on all humanity? Pain of death, either immediate or in the bizarre concept of afterlife, is a powerful motivator and although there is not yet a threat of mass extermination of non-believers like in the Christian bible’s Old Testament, fundamentalist Christians still insist on imposing negative consequences for failure to comply with their edicts.

The idea that certain actions fundamentalist Christians oppose on religious grounds warrant immediate and life-long consequences is the driving force behind the religious right’s opposition to both abortion and contraceptive use. On the day the Supreme Court ruling in Hobby Lobby was announced, a Christian extremist, Erick Erickson, gleefully announced that now, “My religion trumps your (women) right to sex without consequences.” A similar concept drove the opposition to including contraception coverage in the Affordable Care Act that House Republicans believed warranted an all-male panel of clergy to testify that yes, women having sexual relations without lifelong consequences was an abomination their Puritanical sensibilities would not comport.

The food stamp program instead of shrinking it in order to provide for nourishment for the babies they want from forced births. If they loved their neighbors they would not be in the streets stopping the buses from transporting the young kids to the processing centers. They would not treat people of color with disdain, they would not hate people simply because of their sexual choice.

it is more about forcing pregnancy or as Santorum says sex is for procreation.

Having some fool deny us our reproductive health. Too many 'wimmin' have died already. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!

Overkill:
The threefold death, which is suffered by kings, heroes, and gods, is a putatively Proto-Indo-European theme – although it is attested in medieval accounts of Celtic and Germanic mythology.

Some proponents of the trifunctional hypothesis distinguish two types of threefold deaths in Indo-European myth and ritual. In the first type of threefold death, one person dies simultaneously in three ways. He dies by hanging (or strangulation or falling from a tree), by drowning (or poison), and by wounding. These three deaths are foretold, and are often punishment for an offense against the three functions of Indo-European society.[1] The second form of the threefold death is split into three distinct parts, these distinct deaths are sacrifices to three distinct gods of thethree functions.

Because their Bible says we should be subservient to our Head of the Household husbands. Hobby Lobby **really** thinks the only hobbies we should have are making babies and dinner.
A woman who is in control of whether, when and how many children she will bear is in control of her life. This is what they find threatening and will not tolerate. I am terrified for my daughter and granddaughter.

Heather, it may just be me, but do you mean that the way it sounds? There are plenty of men that will be stroking other men. I know that you know that, right?

Don't let us forget that this religious corporation cares just as little for our LGTB Brothers and Sisters as it does for women. The SC and HL have made me furious with this decision but I will not throw another community under the bus for it.

I'm not saying you are, btw. I'm just thinking you may not have worded your post the way you meant to?

Although I know plenty Gay men who have been married, My comment was not ment to exclude Gay men. But I seriously doubt men ever worry about getting another man pregnant. So as it relates the Birth Control, and Vasectomies it is usually concerning heteros. Now Viagra is for all male sexuals

ten-four on this post. When is the left to gain judicial ascendancy again? This court is RW poison for us all. A slow painfully acting poison as is the policies of the RW in general.

supporting all those babies. We can hardly afford two children let alone 12. One of my ancestors actually had 18 living children with 3 wives. Imagine trying to make ends meet with that many children.

are Catholics and will be even worse than Hobby Lobby. They are objecting to ALL forms of BC. A diaphragm and sterilization cannot possibly be considered "abortificants" when egg and sperm never even meet. As another poster said, the purpose of (married) sex is for procreation, unless their is a GRAVE REASON to "space" births. The sexual act must always be "open" to procreation. Rhythm, excuse me, Natural Family Planning. Maybe Eden Foods will pay for calendars and thermometers instead?????

Back in 2009 I had a conversation with a very outspoken tea partier. He had been attending the local kick-off of Glenn Beck’s 9-12 rallies, which happened to fall on the same day as an event with Senator Michael Bennet. Given that the senator’s event was open to the public, a few of Beck’s fans decided to cross the street (the two events were literally across the street from each other) to hear the senator speak; their real intent, however, was to heckle the senator. Bennet handled them with grace and aplomb, much to their consternation.

Anyway, after the event we were outside chatting and one of the Beckers wandered over and joined the conversation. He was carrying, of course, the Gadsden flag, and he was accompanied by his wife, who didn’t speak but nodded or shook her head. Many of his compatriots were very vocally supportive of the “personhood” effort, and he was quite happy to enlighten us on the subject. He explained that it was just the beginning of what they hoped to accomplish, namely, returning the Constitution to the "state of purity it held prior to its corruption by the Bill of Rights."

He answered in the affirmative when we asked if he was really advocating the elimination of all amendments. “So we’d go back to having slaves and making voting available to only white male property owners?”, we asked. “Yes,” he answered. We turned to his wife and asked her if she agreed to having her rights taken away; she nodded, and with her eyes lowered whispered her only words to us, “It would only be temporary.” My god.

Turning back to him, I asked “Do you really expect me to give up all of my rights?” To which he puffed out his rather scrawny chest and answered, “It IS necessary.” Not willing to let that go, I asked “So your purpose, then, is to take all rights away from women and minorities?” His response, “Yes, but you just don’t get it.” With that, he turned and began to walk away, stopping only to turn and glare at his wife until she followed him.

He was right about one thing: I don’t “get” it. Nor do I want to.
