WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- A sleeping New Jersey teenager was shot when gunfire broke out outside her home and a bullet pierced her bedroom wall, authorities said.
Tiya Hudson, a 13-year-old girl from the Sicklerville section of Winslow Township, was struck in the buttocks around 12:45 a.m. Monday. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
Her mother, Betty Hudson, said the shooting makes it hard to feel safe at home.
"We're not at the wrong place at the wrong time," she told WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. "We're home in bed and something like this happens."

(146,329 posts)Try the RKBA group. That's my suggestion. It's a local story about someone hit accidentally by someone firing a firearm. It's certainly not big news, which is really the only exception to the "No guns" prohibition in the GD SOP.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)give more latitude to the anti-gun posts and so do not generally lock them. There is now an effort to do the same to other groups. It is hypocritical that the gun control group strictly enforces their SOP and wish others not too.

(146,329 posts)But it's been alerted on SOP grounds. Time will tell, I suppose.

(13,324 posts)Personally, I'm not opposed to gun ownership in general, even if I find the sheer number of guns in this country somewhat alarming.

(16,974 posts)May I ask why?
Please see about changing the SOP to remove the no guns portion as it really does not matter anymore.

(16,974 posts)Thanks, I assume you were overruled by consensus.
The hosts should propose an update to Skinner to post so it removed the ambiguity. It says no gun posts and no exceptions for now but we all know that part is really meaningless.
I will not bother to alert any more as it is really kind of pointless if I do not know what the limits are.
Have a great one

(68,644 posts)...a complaint about a locked thread about a child death.
Skinner's answer created the potential for a "child exception" to the "no exception" SOP policy.
So, if the gun story involves a child victim, it can be argued that DU wants to read about it so it can stay. Not must stay but can stay.
Sort of vague.
It would be interesting to see if a story about a 15 year old being shot while assaulting a homeowner would pass as an exception in GD.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)so vague there is in essence a blanket exception for anti-gun stories and there really is no point at even trying to draw a line. I am curious if they would let that stand but I doubt it. I will just comment on when they post.

How many must die before we look at sensible reforms?

(22,165 posts)Cradle to grave (or legal sale) responsibility for all firearms (noting most illegal firearms started out as legal firearms). Requirements for purchasing ammunition similar to those required for purchasing pseudoephedrine (regulated in most states, with limits on the amount purchased and a registry of those purchasing). Uniform federal laws preventing the free flow of arms over state boundaries (from states with lax gun laws into states with stricter gun laws).
Those are a few to start

(39,171 posts)Registration produced massive civil disobedience - turns out public support was not as strong as the politicians thought.
Ignoring political and cultural reality is not "sensible" -it is stupid. There will never be registration in America. Hell, even the ACLU opposes it and they hate the 2A.

(16,974 posts)Federal law is already uniform, any weapon shipped across a state line must be shipped to an FFL and a background check completed at sale.
Limits on purchasing ammunition? How much? Who decides, non firearms owners that are clueless about weapons like this guy?
I can go though several hundred rounds in an afternoon at the range. Bulk buying is cheaper.
I am for UBC for all sales. I have most of mine registered with the federal government anyway but you would have to have some strong language to prevent confiscation as has happened before when the law is changed and a legal weapon now becomes prohibited in some way like it has a bayonet lug or a pistol grip.
