(2,345 posts)Hundreds of volunteers are stepping forward to help meet the needs of migrant children expected to arrive in Dallas County later this month, as local organizations ramp up to respond to the anticipated influx.
About 200 people, most of them bilingual, contacted the League of United Latin American Citizens within 72 hours of the organization posting a notice seeking volunteers, said Rene Martinez, LULAC director for northeast Texas.
Were having a huge number of teachers, professionals, students from all across the metroplex, Martinez said. We need volunteers to read, to tutor, to mentor, to help in recreational and arts and crafts activities, once these kids are settled. I dont think anybody has had as much of a response as we have.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has announced plans to house 2,000 children in Dallas County in up to three shelters run by a still-unidentified federal contractor. Details are still being finalized on which sites will be used and when the children might begin arriving.

(2,674 posts)See Du-er's, all Texans are not a bunch of right winger nuts even if we have Ted Cruz and Rick Perry. Some Texans are not afraid to step up to the plate and do the right thing.

(8,419 posts)Murrieta is about 30 miles straight east of me. Luckily there is a mountain range between us with no direct access.
Anyway glad to see this guy is leading his area to do the right thing.
Can we work out a trade? We can easily fit a million people in the Murrieta/Temecula region. Pretty good weather short trip to SD or OC!
I will even spring for a BBQ, have a butcher down the road that has the best Carne Asada you will ever taste.

(69,014 posts)After all the rancid Mammonites posing as Christians, it was so lovely to see him. He knows those frightened children need hugs and homes.
Would he like to run for something? Congressman? Senator?
