Finally, Sheriff Joe Arpaio serves a search warrant on boarding facility where 23 dogs died.

MCSO serves warrant at site of Gilbert dog deaths

"We're looking at every angle," Arpaio said during a news conference on the property of Green Acres Dog Boarding. "We are seizing records, computers and we still have subpoenas out for phone records. We still have a lot of work to do after we finish here."

The owners of the boarding kennel, MaLeisa and Todd Hughes, claimed a dog chewed through an air conditioner power cord where they were boarded after the caretakers left for the night.

Arpaio said 20 of the 28 dogs in the 9-by-12-foot room died and their bodies found in a nearby shed on June 21. Deputies were still trying to determine if another dog died before that date and another dog was found dead a week later after being hit by a car.

The carcass of another dog was found buried in the backyard of the property on Wednesday, Arpaio said, and deputies were checking to see if there were more.

This story has gripped the pet lovers in AZ since it broke two weeks ago. The persons in charge of the dogs while the Hughes (owners of the facility) were vacationing in Florida were the son and DIL of Senator Jeff Flake. They claimed a dog chewed through the power cord to the AC unit. Right.

People visiting the facility to drop off their dogs said they didn't hear dogs barking. That many dogs and no noise? Speculation is that the Flakes were drugging the dogs. Samples have been sent to university vet hospitals for necropsies and one of the families paid to have necropsies done independently.

This facility was a cash cow for these people. In addition to cash income from the dog boarding, they also have several foster children.

Treating living creatures like that...I hope they take a good look at the condition of those foster children.

But it hasn't been confirmed. The woman is a strange person - and that's being charitable.

She throws Flake's name around as if it excuses her negligence. She obviously feels above the laws of decency, living vicariously through the in-laws.

When Sheriff Joe's detectives went to interview them, they said "talk to my lawyer."

Joe swears that the relationship with the Senator won't change anything. We're watching.

Joe says they needed to gather evidence. What about evidence that was being destroyed? Maybe he was waiting for necropsy results. They may have taken the trash too.

There are a lot of questions.

Arpaio runs a no-kill shelter out of one of his eight jails. It's the only part of the whole Maricopa County Gulag that has air conditioning.

I can think of no one better suited to give the Flakes exactly what they deserve.

As for the dogs...Arpaio's no-kill shelter is a first-class operation.

10. Junior Flake should be charged as he was the caretaker, after all.

The truth is he didn't check on those dogs.

Thanks for this followup QED.

Not only should there be charges in this, but I'm sure the IRS will want to look into the finances of the boarding facility. That's a lot of cash. How much was reported?

the dogs might have suffocated and that a functioning air conditioner might not have saved their lives. They stuffed 28 dogs into a 9 x 12 room with only 1 vent. If you have seen some of the pictures of the dead dogs, the majority of them were a pretty good size (like along the size of labs or golden retrievers). I can't even imagine what took place in that room as they suffocated to death.

If they can prove animal cruelty then there is a good chance that criminal charges will be filed. One of the search warrants they are still waiting on is for phone records. I would love to see what they show for calls from Jeff Flake to his dad, the Senator.

I can't see how they were supposed to be okay in that small room. Even Sheriff Joe shook his head in disbelief. And, how could so many dogs who didn't know each other possibly get along? My dogs, who routinely curl up together and play together, have several rooms to roam in and still, every now and then, they "have words."

I think they were drugged to calm them down. I wonder if Joe got the toxicology report back and if it showed drugs in their system.

It's just unreal. I hold my dogs a bit closer and love on them a whole lot more since this happened. And sometimes I just hold them and cry.
