Two underweight, neglected dogs suffering from fleas were rescued from a dirt cellar by the Nebraska Humane Society on Thursday.

The dogs, both Shih Tzu mixes, were taken from a home at 2332 S. 10th Street.

The residents of the home, Shawn Hall, 38, and Barbara Hall, 46, each was cited on Friday with two counts of animal cruelty, as well as a citation for unsanitary conditions, according to the Humane Society.
