(83,749 posts)The President Signed an Act Encouraging Thousands of Undocumented Kids to be Sent to Our Borders
July 7, 2014
by Allen Clifton
By now many Americans have heard about the issue concerning the thousands of undocumented children that have arrived at our borders. Its a situation thats emphasized just how important it is that we address our broken immigration system.
And as expected Republicans have tried to exploit the situation to levy attacks against President Obama. Because what would a story such as this be like without Republicans spending 90 percent of their time blaming it entirely on President Obama?
They claim Obamas attempt to pass immigration reform is the reason why thousands of undocumented children have flooded toward our border. Then when these undocumented immigrants (mostly children and women) were bused into the United States for processing, Republicans couldnt wait to get in front of a camera to claim that the president was responsible for all of this.
And theyre partially right. A president was responsible for this. In fact, it was the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act that helped redefine how we handled undocumented immigrants from countries other than Mexico and Canada. Under this act the law requires that undocumented children from other countries be handed over to the Department of Health and Human Services to be cared for. Theyre also given legal counsel and advocates to explain how to seek asylum or other ways to stay in this country. So when children from Central or South America come here, this act requires that we care for them.
But Im not saying Republicans are wrong for blaming a president for passing such an act that possibly encourages immigrants from non-contiguous countries to come here. Theyre just blaming the wrong one. See, this act was signed in 2008 by President George W. Bush.

Jesus was a good man with a good message. I don't care if you're Christian or not, he said some beautiful things in his day. I may not be a religious person, but philosophy resonates with me. He was a good one.

(30,058 posts)And ran out on the tarmac for a photo op with Obama to complain about refugees crossing the border. Where in the hell has he been? I have not seen reports of his ass running to the birders to see what is going on there. He is just another photo op, useless as a governor also.

(61,694 posts)I have read and heard of two groups, Baptist Children's Homes, and the Catholic Diocese (somewhere in So Ca), that are in discussions with Immigration on sheltering children.
There are good Christians willing to help without publicity. They just don't want to put targets on their backs with the Murrieta Crazies, etc. crying foul about the children's presence.

(6,151 posts)We'd do well also to switch to exclusive use of the term 'refugees', because that's what these children are; not immigrants, legal or otherwise. Some people need to be reminded of our duty to welcome and protect refugees (besides treating legal or illegal immigrants decently). Good Lord in Heaven, I've seen reports of people threatening to go to the border and start shooting these children. On Judgment Day they'd better not try to tell God what good servants they were, worthy of reward. That's going to fly like a lead balloon.

(83,749 posts)all because they crossed the border to seek a safe haven. What the hell is wrong with these people? Their total lack of a human soul is apparent. I guess they are just standing their ground.
That hurts my head, Irish.

The conservative meltdown over unaccompanied Central American children showing up at the border reached a new, but inevitable peak: armed, Bundy Ranch-style militias waving guns at them.
These gunmen were moved to action not because of the plight of these poor, desperate children whos parents sent them north in the hopes that they might escape the violence, civil unrest, and crushing poverty in their home countries. No, instead, they are just livid that America has to deal with them. So, they grabbed their guns, packed up their American flags and headed to the border.
Operation Secure Our Border, organized members of the Patriot movement, gained experience in gun wielding bullying during the showdown at Cliven Bundys ranch. Remarkably, their threats of violence had their desired effect and the U.S. government backed away from the fight. Emboldened, the group now hopes it can do the same on the border.
According to a YouTube video (since deleted) posted by one of the activists organizing the group, they are now operating under strict kill orders if they see any illegals. At one point in the video, the activist, identified by The Monitor as Chris Davis, tells prospective immigrants: Get back across the border or you will be shot.

(1,269 posts)Wouldn't it have been wise to get confrontational with O and say 'Well, bring them in already. That's the law goddammnit!' . They had a legitimate stake in governing with compassion and blew it to hell.
They've become out of touch with anything but hatred. It's their default emotive stance. Goes straight to stupid.
Love that 'Every life matters - Except these' contrast, she she. I always tell my rightie coworkers 'how can you give such a damn about a collection of cells but not a collection of a civilization?' when they go into 'bomb em all' mode. God what complete assfucks.

(1 post)Many of those engaged in the anti-refugee protest at Murietta apparently describe themselves as Christian.
I do not.
I do, however, recall something from the book that these soi-disant Christians claim to revere as a manual on how to conduct their lives:
Luke 18: Verses 15 to 17 (New International Version)
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.
Matthew 19: Verses 13 to 15 (New International Version)
13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
14 Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.
