#IAmJada - Mocking of teen rape victim prompts major internet backlash

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/10968068/Teen-rape-victim-viral-photos-Jadapose-prompts-major-internet-backlash.html

Photos of a 16-year-old American girl, who was allegedly raped, have been passed around social media and mocked by teens, using the hashtag #jadapose. Now, Jada and her supporters are fighting back

.
.
.
A few weeks ago Jada went to a house party with school friends. While there, she says her drink was spiked by the teenage male host. She fell unconscious, was stripped naked and allegedly raped.

Then pictures of her – bottomless, unconscious, splayed out on the floor – began to appear on social media, where they went viral.
.
.
.

Women and men have been posing pictures on social media in a show of solidarity with Jada - raising their fists and holding signs, as she did in a picture with the hashtag #IAmJada. They also appear under hashtags such as #StandWithJada, #JusticeforJadaand #Jadacounterpose and demand a change in rape culture, education - and for arrests to be made in Jada's case. They have slammed those who made fun of her and sent the photos viral.
---------------------------------------------------------------

I will be posting my own Jada support pic after work today to my social media accounts.

to empowering her and shaming the right ones, as a group, as a whole. the tables turn. and THIS will be her healing.

this is who we are as a people.

and this is why it is so important we, the good people, speak out and reach out, each and every time.

you will see the difference in the girls face from then, to now.

what a young woman she is. i do not give the title of woman to someone so young, often, but she is earning it here.

she must have some awesome parents, family, friends in her life. i do not know. but she is strong.

enough to support her. showing strength in "gang" "swarm" "mob" of the righteous saying, no. you do not get to shame and mock her. we won't look away. she is so much more and we all stand with her.

and she has to be. Her strength is a beacon for other young women in her circumstance, and a warning that no others should be. There should be justice for her, and a barbed wire fence that says young women will no longer be taken, nor taken lightly.

She has regained her dignity, and I hope every young woman claims it for her own.

in the age of cellphone cameras and social media. And far, far too often, the young woman is so shamed she ends her own life because of it.

I don't know what can be done. Rape is already a felony, and so are taking and distributing pictures. If that doesn't stop this horrible behavior, I can't think of anything that will.

it is sure to send a message across the nation, itz ok.

when rape porn, whether simualted or real, is so popular, the problem will continue to escalate as our boys feed and are raised on the acceptance of this.

makes them the man, using the girl.

it is our culture.

it is time our culture did something about it.

Did coaches hide evidence here, or are you referring to the Steubenville case?

Not all coaches and not all cops are willing to cover this up. Many of them have daughters and can relate to what these young women are going through. I really believe that is a rare situation.

What isn't rare (unfortunately) is that young men lack empathy, and I'm not sure that can be taught. I think it only comes with many years of experience. They think of themselves first--what's fun, what makes them "the man." They humiliate through rape, and then they double-humiliate by bragging about it--with pix as evidence. They need to feel humiliated themselves. With all the shame brought on the guys convicted in the steubenville case, you can bet they will think twice about raping the next passed-out girl is in front of them.

But at least if we have a conversation about it we can prevent a young woman from tragedy and a young man from committing a felony.

The stocks did serve a purpose. They put a person on public display as an object of ridicule (sort of like what the boys in these cases are doing to the girls, come to think of it.) Seems like it would be a wonderful idea to do it to them.
