This nation has got plenty of resources to share but then who would tolerate rotten less than living wage working conditions if they were not afraid of dying on the mean streets?
Personally I think unemployment benefits ought to be generous enough to compete directly with the crappy, low paying jobs. Everyone ought to be able to tell a rotten employer "Take this job and shove it!" without fearing for their lives.
Our care for the disabled ought to be generous too.
Raise the minimum wage, cut the bloated military budget, tax the wealthy fairly... that's all it would take to assure safe comfortable housing, good food, and appropriate medical care for all.
Sadly, the wealthy and powerful want to hoard their wealth and have plenty of fearful workers they can abuse.
