Jon Stewart Sets Up Funny $10 Billion Kickstarter To Buy CNN

"SNIP.........................

On Tuesday's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart announced the humorous launch of a fictional, $10 billion Kickstarter campaign to buy CNN.

Stewart explained that if Rupert Murdoch was successful in purchasing CNN parent company Time Warner, the news network would have to be sold off in order to avoid regulatory problems because of the conflict that Murdoch also owns Fox News.

So Stewart proposed that he and his viewers attempt to buy CNN.

"It wouldn't come cheap though, with analysts saying the network would be worth about $10 billion on the open market," Stewart explained. "It's a lot of money for anyone — but not a lot of money for everyone, which is why tonight we are starting our Kickstarter campaign to buy CNN!"

with a so called "public" TV station. I thought at one time that we had it in PBS, but, boy, that has changed. Still, this is crazy enough. So count me in.

We might get it for cheap(er), depending on what Murdoch thinks about JS doing a competent job. He may see it as a way for JS to self destruct, and would forgo some measure of profit to ensure that happens.
9.81 billion is still a huge hurdle though.

Any guesses on the operational budget if we convert it to an actual news agency? One which funds investigative journalists?

Who can be imported? TYT? Mike Papantonio? Thom Hartmann (severing the ties with RT, to reinforce his creditability here)? Sam Sedar? D. Pakman? J Ventura?

he put in an offer on Time Warner. Buying CNN only to have it blocked out and shoved to an upper tier like MSNBC is not that useful.

Looking at it as a semiserious rather than shtick question.

There are wealthy liberals out there. Really there are -- the Hollywood crowd for example.

It would be wonderful if a more balanced view of the world news could be broadcast in the mainstream media in middle America and the South.

We have KPFK here in Los Angeles. I don't always agree with it. In fact, I disagree a lot, but it is a different point of view that helps me see things from another perspective.

Everyone put away their pet projects and causes for a while so we can get the truth out finally.
