Buying an SUV to feel safer

My compact sedan was rear ended the other day, and I finally understand why so many women opt for minivans and SUVs. A midsize car hit me at a stop sign. I don't know how fast he was going, but my entire back end was destroyed, and I suffered whiplash and a head injury. Thank God my child was not in the car with me. My car is a 2014 that was rated 5 stars for safety by the IIHS. The guy who hit me? His car was barely scratched!

I see them on the news once in a while.

They most often show a car hitting a barrier with the left front corner of the car, because that is the most common type of accident.

Once in a great while they show "T-Bone" type accidents.

I can't remember ever seeing rear-end type accident tests.

Modern cars are designed so that the front and back collapse, which reduces force on the occupants. The structure surrounding the occupants is extremely solid. How a car "feels" or looks like after an accident has nothing to do with its safety. If your rear end didn't collapse, you'd probably be hurt much worse.
