Happened last weekend at the HOPE X conference in New York City. Ellsberg in person, Snowden tied in by video.

In any event, I am grateful for the revelations about what my government does to me with my money, regardless of who made the revelations and why.

(1,782 posts)In the past I have argued that the emphasis belongs on what Snowden uncovered, not on his personal merit.
But at least in what he's done for this country, I believe Snowden deserves praise. With apparently little regard for what happens to him, Snowden revealed what the American people need to know. For that he could end up stateless or in jail or even dead. I wish I were so brave.

(12,977 posts)It sounds like ot was a major event even aside from Ellsberg and Snowden's appearances.
The longtime hackers, the Anonymous types, the whistleblowers, the people who worry about surveillance, and the reporters who write about all of it are coming together and networking furiously.
The HOPE X conference strikes me as much more significant than the Netroots Nation convention a few weeks ago, which had the air of a bunch of slightly faded blogging superstars trying to remain relevant by leaning on the Democratic Party. I'm no doubt overstating slightly -- but it certainly had none of the freshness and excitement that I'm picking up in accounts of HOPE X.
