I know it's a hard world and there's a lot of bigotry and lack of opportunity in it, but now and then I can't help but wonder why on earth people fight against progressive, liberal, humanitarian thinking. In the past couple of years Seattle has elected a gay mayor and a Socialist council member, selected a woman police chief, raised the minimum wage, sanctioned same sex marriage, legalized marijuana and has one of the most vital economies (and economic recoveries) in the country.
Not to mention the folks just south of here at Emerald Queen Casino just told Ted Nugent where to stick that vile attitude.
This progressive stuff just plain works. It does.

A man suspected of killing two young gay men in Seattles Leschi neighborhood last month was arrested in New Jersey.
Ali Muhammad Brown.
Brown killed Ahmed Said, 27, and Dwone Anderson-Young, 23, shortly after midnight June 1 near 29th Avenue South and South King Street, police said. The case is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

(7,393 posts)Worked in politics a lot and worked with the mayor when he was in the state legislature. Sorry to say he's a jerk with an ego the size of Texas. But nevertheless - Seattle is a wonderful place for a liberal to live.

(7,393 posts)I used to live in IN. I have been here for 15 years, and I cannot overstate how much more desirable it is to live in an area with good politics than in a red state. Couldn't help the comment about the mayor. Oh man, he is a DIVA! It's a darn good thing most voters haven't had to personally interact with him or they might never vote for him.

(7,393 posts)We are 100% mail in ballot, and the rural areas always get counted first because their counties have less people. Naturally they vote red all the way. And I know this is probably mean to say, but I always think they must think their statewide GOP candidates actually have a chance when they see the early tabulations/election results. But every time, King county (Seattle and burbs) votes come in and BOOM, we're blue.

(7,393 posts)It definitely proves that if you make voter participation easy, more people will vote. Which is exactly why republicans want to make it more difficult to vote. When turnout is high they tend to lose.
Another reason why I can't stand the bastards.

And yes, intelligence, common sense, and kindness just plain works. It surely does.

(41,960 posts)I try to be brave, I do, but I border on full-on bitch about the cold and wet. Today it's in the high 80s, people can't decide whether to swoon from joy or shock, and I am a happy nolabear.
