It's fine, if you're OK with people knowing the information about you. If, however, you're doing so based on the belief that you are anonymous behind your screen name, I advise caution. Malicious websites dedicated to all things detrimental to DU and DUers have proven themselves to be skilled at digging out real identities behind screen names.
Few people who are truly active in online discussions are actually securely anonymous.
I don't care what anyone's kinks are, but there are those who seek out vulnerabilities and gleefully exploit them. Proceed with due caution.

(19,497 posts)Sometimes I think we're a little too prude for our own good. Yeah, yeah, "community standards" and all that but I'd rather leave social cons to be the ones too uptight to discuss adult subjects.

(19,497 posts)When DU3 first started up I had an OP hidden wherein I shared a text conversation I was having with Lover Boy. It's amazing what I can discuss with friends in public that would be hidden on DU even though we're supposed to be the open-minded ones.

(13,985 posts)Lol seriously though. I think you're over reacting. Personally I could care less who knows what my "personal kinks" are. Malicious websites? Such as the low lives from CC? Screw them, the only think malicious about them is their low IQ. I find them pitiful.

(53,032 posts)It is hardly an overreaction. If you're not bothered, no problem. I do think it helpful to remind people that info on this site is publically available, while some show an obsessive fixation on members of this site.

Bdsm is a lifestyle preferance completely legal, and you'd be surprised how many people (from all walks of life, mind you) are part of it.

darkangel218
(13,985 posts)And you know it.
Bdsm /,kinky life style is not illegal and not breaking any rules/laws. It's actually against the law for employers to discriminate based on sexual preference. So I dont get your or the OPs "point".

(20,606 posts)Writing in the Guardian Adam Sweeting declared that in his lifetime Zappa 'railed against America's corporate complacency and political lurch to the right and deplored racism and homophobia'.
In 1979 Zappa's song 'Bobby Brown'--an outrageously indecent account of the supposed psychological and sexual effects of women's liberation on the American male--was a top ten hit in Norway. A couple of years later it hit again in Germany. Why? It had become a cult record in gay discos. Analysis of the lyrics could show that Zappa's sexual politics are mainly paranoid fantasy (and dubious fantasy at that), but gays took to the song because it mentioned aspects of S&M culture--it could be used by an oppressed minority.

Interview with Playboy -
Playboy: Because of songs such as Dinah Moe Humm ("I got a forty-dollar bill say you can't make me come" , He's So Gay and many others, you have been accused of being sexist, misogynistic and homophobic.
Frank Zappa: Some people miss the joke. In general, I was a convenient enemy and they could get exposure for their causes by coming after me. But I'm not antigay. When Ross Perot announced he was running for president, I wanted him to choose Barney Frank as a vice-presidential candidate. He is one of the most impressive guys in Congress. He is a great model for young gay men.
Playboy: But you were criticized for Bobby Brown Goes Down and He's So Gay.
Frank Zappa: But see, I'm a journalist of a sort. I have a right to say what I want to say about any topic.

(84,711 posts)is "Unaware." I think they are perfectly honest in their posts and the links they give. I don't see why they should worry. There's nothing in the DU RULES that forbids giving links to "fetish.com" or advertising contacts for Classes one gives for those who wish to find ways to participate in BDSM.
This is a "Brave New World" of freedom we live in. After all if folks didn't mind being spied on after Snowden's revelations and feel "I have nothing to hide...so who cares what the Government does"...then they shouldn't feel threatened posting on "Democratic Underground." After all this is an open internet site and unless a Jury decides the posts don't conform to "DU Standards" ...folks are free to post what they want. If Feepers or other RW'ers want to make fun of them...then who the heck cares?
Nothing wrong with that...

I know it's "OTT" ...but, it's DU when Wars are going on and innocents are dying everywhere. Why not do BDSM? Everything I didn't want to know....I now know a bit more about.

(30,481 posts)This is good advice and something we should all think about. How much of ourselves do we want out there. The answer will be different for all of us. I know a couple of people with extreme anxiety who use forums like this as their means of conversation and connection. They would be devastated if their true identities were posted. There are also people here who are very open about their identities. We each need to think about how much we put out there, all while understanding that your real name might be exposed at some point.

MineralMan
(146,288 posts)since it deals with singular pronouns. "A man" and "another." Some individual men have a very strange definition of what "pleasures" are, and not all of those involve consent or permission. That's why the saying is badly flawed as it is written. But, then, I've never really considered Madonna to be a paragon of wisdom, somehow.
