English cricketer banned by International Cricket Council from wearing Save Gaza wristbands

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/england/10997347/England-v-India-Moeen-Ali-banned-from-wearing-Save-Gaza-wristbands-for-remainder-of-third-Test-at-Ageas-Bowl.html
<snip>
Moeen Ali, the England batsman, has been banned from wearing wristbands with a political message by the International Cricket Council.

Moeen wore two wristbands supporting the people of Gaza on the second day of the third Test against India at the Ageas Bowl.

The England & Wales Cricket Board supported Moeen's right to wear the bands on Tuesday but match referee, David Boon, has told the England all-rounder not to do so again.

The ICC said in a statement this morning: "The ICC Equipment and Clothing Regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match. Moeen Ali was told by the Match Referee that whilst he is free to express his views on such causes away from the cricket field, he is not permitted to wear the wristbands on the field of play and warned not to wear the bands again during an international match."

Moeen's two wristbands had slogans saying "Save Gaza" and "Free Palestine". The ECB argued they were not political and Moeen is supporting a humanitarian cause and it is no different to the logos the team will wear today supporting the Help for Heroes chairty.

I support the English Board's take on this.

but this is BS. Moeen Ali should have the unquestioned right to openly express his views.

A post linking Sam Harris' thought provoking article "Why Don't I Criticize Israel?" was alerted and locked within about an hour.

"Save Gaza" - Throw out Hamas

"Free Palestine" - Yeah, kick out or kill all of Israel, that is the Palestinian goal
