http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/no-market-scientists-struggle-make-ebola-vaccines-treatments-n167871At least four vaccines are being developed to protect people against Ebola, including one that protects monkeys completely against the deadly virus. Several groups are also working on treatments, but one of the most promising is stuck in safety testing.
They might be farther along if not for one problem: money.
Even though Ebola is burning out of control in West Africa, its not a huge potential market for a large pharmaceutical company to sink its teeth and its assets into developing. That leaves the U.S. government and small, niche biopharmaceutical companies.
I dont see why anybody except the U.S. government would get involved in developing these kinds of countermeasures, said Dr. Sina Bavari of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Frederick, Maryland. There is no market in it.

(56,177 posts)1. If Big Pharma could find a way to develop a vaccine that cures wrinkles and protects against Ebola..
Then we'd be in business...until then...

(6,096 posts)3. I talked to a pharmacist recently about them changing my
pills (same pills - different color, different texture, crumble when cut in half and TASTE TERRIBLE. I asked the pharmacist if I could get the other brand (approx. same price - One dollar difference) and she didn't know. She told me that big pharma is only interested in making money and they make money on pills for diseases that are ONgoing. SUCH AS diabetes, blood pressure, drugs for people who have heart conditions...blood thinners...things that people can possibly be on the rest of their lives.
They are not interested in short term pills...cuz the bottom line is greed. It, indeed, is scarey this Ebola.
