Phoenix is unacceptable. Arizonas SB 1070 is still on the books, and police continue to profile and harass Latinos because of the way they look. It would be a very divisive move, and disrespectful to a growing constituency in the Democratic Party.

Our Message to Democratic National Committee
Phoenix is an unacceptable choice for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. As Democrats, we must focus on the places that unite usnot consider places that divide.

(1,290 posts)A presidential nominee criticizing anti-immigrant laws and making the Democratic Party case for comprehensive reform to a cheering multicultural crowd would be a powerful image to send in Arizona. Especially if there are Hispanic convention speakers within the Arizona Democratic Party who call out the Republicans and call for increased minority participation on behalf of the Democrats in the 2016 election.
Arizona very much has the potential to be a swing state in 2016, and such a moment could help us put it in play. All that aside, I think I voted for Birmingham simply because it was the closest, and I don't really care all that much where the convention is held.

filled every day with requests from around the country for more.
