Jordan's Abdullah: Israel Must Be Held Accountable For What Is Happening In Gaza

Jordanian King Abdullah harshly criticized Israel's Operation Protective Edge on Sunday, saying that the Jewish state bears the primary responsibility for hostilities and that the whole world must act now to end the "occupation."

Speaking in an interview to Jordanian daily newspaper Al-Ghad, Abdullah said the Arab countries and the international community must hold Israel accountable for what it was doing in Gaza.

Abdullah refuted Israeli claims that the war was justified, and lamented the loss of innocent lives.

The Jordanian king stated that without a peace agreement, we would eventually be discussing a "fifth and sixth" Israel war in Gaza.

Abdullah, who has been criticized at home for being relatively quiet during Israel's operation in Gaza, told Al-Ghad that "we prefer to work actively and deliberately to end the Israeli aggression."

It's amazing in this day and age that there are modern countries who are ruled by kings.

I think it's pretty backwards to be ruled by a hereditary unelected person.

You don't?

According to Wikipedia, he is pretty much an absolute monarch.

as they are all monarchies, in fact there are 40+ current monarchies and yes some of the countries involved could be called backwards but not because they are monarchies

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_sovereign_monarchs

and Abdullah is not an absolute monarch as Jordan is a constitutional monarchy

Let's point out how strange it is that any country still retains a monarchy. No one will dispute that. It is strange. What were we talking about?

the amount of heavy lifting he does to prevent militants from gaining a foothold in either Jordan or the West Bank is immeasurable. He does it purely out of self-interest but nevertheless Israel benefits enormously.

If the Israelis have any sense they should pray to all the pantheons that the man lives to be a hundred.

Their government has been less-than-helpful in dealing with the Palestinians.

That said, it's clear that the tide of popular opinion is turning against Israel. Perhaps that's why the King felt he could chime in now.
