Dude. A white woman approached in a dark parking lot in Ferguson by two panicked black men?

I'm back at my hotel near the airport. Me and @JstnMchl flagged down a woman in all of that chaos who got us out of there.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 4h
We were lost. A cop pointed a gun at us because we were running, trying to stay away from the tear gas and flash bombs behind us.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 4h
It occurred to me those officers had no way of knowing I was media. Not that they would have cared. I had to put my hands up and move slowly

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 4h
The cops continued to yell at us from across the street. I couldn't understand them. I just kept my hands up, & yelled at others to do same

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 4h
I literally felt trapped. We couldn't go back. But ahead of us, cops were pointing guns and yelling inscrutable orders at us.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 4h
Everyone was confused. There was literally almost nowhere to go. We went into a parking lot, and cars were peeling off all around us

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 3h
And I guess my angel is Stacy Graham of Jerseyville, Illinois. I saw her backing up and asked her if she would give us a ride.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 3h
Dude. A white woman approached in a dark parking lot by two panicked black men? And she still told us to get on in.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 3h
Other stuff happened. But we're back at the hotel. My car and everything else is back at the McDonald's on West Florissant.

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 3h
So I guess I have to trust I can get back into Ferguson in about five hours and that nothing will happen. What should I think about that?

Joel D. Anderson @blackink12 3h
One final thing. As @JstnMchl said: The police are the ones making this dangerous. They risked so many lives tonight for...I don't know why

16. yes

. . . I completely agree.

They are the most dangerous element right now in Ferguson. That's an incredible statement, but a sad reality.

3. Disgrace

What is happening to this country? Religious and bigotted nutcases are getting into office, dividing us all. Thank goodness for people who keep cool heads, like the lady who helped you. We ALL, black and white have to help each other it is the only way we can get through this mess. So glad you got out safely, good luck getting your vehicles.

6. you should be sorry

Do you think racism depends on whether the person is "handsome" or not?

Do you think a woman is more likely to let a stranger into her home if he is "handsome"?

Let's take it to its real conclusion, do you think women are sluts?

8. Sadly there is a relationship between attractiveness and perceived trustworthiness

This study doesn't specifically speak to race, but it does show the underlying relationship that can then be extrapolated out to race based on other research like the one below about average prison sentences compared between lighter and darker skinned African Americans.

http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0025656

Also there is a relationship between how dark skinned an African American is and how long a prison sentence one would serve, with lighter skinned people being more likely to get a lesser sentence.

http://www.theroot.com/articles/politics/2011/07/color_bias_do_lightskinned_blacks_get_shorter_sentences.html

Likewise people who are considered attractive are likely to be paid better.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/how-much-is-being-attractive-worth-80414787/?no-ist

I don't think there's any reason to assume that the person you're responding to was saying that a woman is a slut for letting a more attractive guy catch a ride.

10. That's repulsive.

That comment is both racist and sexist at the same time.

You need to delete and post an apology in it's place.

11. Did you even read the fear and panic in those tweets?

What a horrible comment - both dismissing and minimizing the gravity of the situation and that altruistic intent of the woman who helped innocent people escape mortal danger.

5. How do you think the PTB (Powers That Be)

Got so Many well armed cops in place to begin with. They used the "Black Boogie man" to scare the shit out of middle class white women. That's how it happened in Jersey. Only now the Facade is beginning to flake off, and the truth is showing.

12. Nice to see those of us who are in the 99% helping each other,

instead of fearing one another. The way things are going, America might look like this town someday and it's going to take all of us "little people" pulling together to make it through.

13. this is a good reflection of the anguish and frustration around the police occupation of Ferguson

. . . and also a reflection of the hope still contained in the people there and elsewhere.

15. no question

. . . in my view.

We saw the night that they mostly held back, watching property vandalized, looted, and burned in some cases. Yet, property can be recovered; life and limb threatened and harmed by violence perpetrated and inflamed by the police intimidation and actions often cannot.

19. Thanks Tree... it's the little things like this

that remind us who is instigating what here.

I just saw they are calling in the National Guard... I wonder if they are going in to protect the people or the cops..

23. it's another account that sends shivers

. . . for some of us, it brings to the surface memories of personal experience and the personal trauma associated.

Clearly, this is a community and its citizens under an unnecessarily dangerous and threatening occupation by police forces at night - and it appears, in much of their day for African Americans there, as well.

Simple: The beatings (tear-gassing, rubber bullets, LRAD, etc.) will continue until morale improves!
