Family Told to Remove Flags from Balcony

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — An American Flag waves outside the entrance of the Cornerstone Apartments in Independence but there’s a battle over patriotism inside the complex. Kayla Caroll has been told to removed two small American Flags and a larger U.S. Marine flag that hangs from her second floor balcony.

She asks, “How do you live in the United States of America and tell somebody they can’t fly their flags?” Her Husband is a U.S. Marine who served in Iraq. She first hung the American flags about three weeks ago without any problems. But when she added the larger Marine flag about a week ago she received a notice from management to remove all the flags.

On Monday she received a final notice giving her 24 hours to remove the flags.

“The final notices with the flags, have just rubbed me and my husband the wrong way when he fights for our rights to fly the flags,” Carroll said.

because cities and counties tell you what you can do with your home. They tell you how far it must be set back from the street, how high your fences can be, what percentage of organic material vs. hardscape you can have in your yard, what improvements you can make, what permits you need to make those improvements, etc.

You get the idea.

I bet the rule isn't about specific "flag" types ... it's about hanging shi* from your balconies ...

but then, "hanging shi* from your balcony" doesn't get your 15 minutes of fame on Faux ...

Covenants do say no 'lawn signs' except for contractors and realtors.

"This home/pool/whatever built by XYZ."
"For sale by XYZ Realtors."
And those are limited to 12 square feet.

So, NO political signs allowed.
I like that.

In my bright red county, in a bright red state, my Obama bumper sticker was pasted on a piece of plywood screwed to a tree 10 feet up right on my street.

1. NOT a yard sign.
2. High enough that anyone wanting to mess with it would have to bring both a ladder AND a screwdriver.
No body messed with it.
