Financiers on The Mountaintop
A LTTE to Newsday today made an analogy that, to me, perfectly describes the 99% situation we find ourselves in.
There's a mountain, and on each side of this mountain there are towns. The financier's camp is at the top of that mountain.
There's abundant rainfall, good crops in one town. The town on the unlucky side of that mountain, despite virtuous inhabitants and hard work has suffered drought and the failure of their crops.
Does the financier serve both communities?
This speculator buys most of the grain of the lucky town before they are aware of the shortage on the other side of the mountain. He then warehouses the grain until the price on both sides rises.. a lot. By using the roads, truckers, processors and grain elevators, retailers and consumers.. this Mountaintop Master "earns" billions of dollars from the hard work of people on both sides of the mountain, and yet has contributed nothing.
When we admit that ALL our income is from the American Pie.. the whole pie, and that our taxes are fees paid to the WHOLE country for creating the mere possibility of wealth.. then it is easy to see that the rate on the Man on the Mountain should , by rights, be MUCH higher than the rate on the hard working, contributing citizens on either side of that mountain.
